Great team performance today, as we set up with a 4-1-4-1 formation with Fitch as the lone striker. Up until our first goal Margate showed why their form has been so good lately: they were well organised, defended deep and looked capable of catching us on the break. But after their keeper Chris Lewington failed to deal with the free kick from debutant Ryan Burge that gave us the lead, they lost their shape and their discipline. Lewington saved well from Fitch's penalty kick but was left stranded for Tom B's sumptuous second that arced over the visiting defence and into the net. Bedsy's second-half penalty and Fitch's close-range goal put us in complete control. The only blemish was the late goal that we let in - the fourth in our last three league games that we've conceded in the dying minutes. But it will be some consolation that Hemel conceded a stoppage-time equaliser at home to Bath today. And on the subject of very late goals, the two that Maidstone let in at Havant allowed us to reclaim 2nd place. Thanks guys! Meanwhile, Margate's ex-Bobbin Lewis Taylor will no doubt be regretting his rush of blood to the head at the final whistle.

Yet another club photographer, this time from Margate - pitchside in an official capacity, thinking it's ok to leap round and harangue players and match officials, very poor.

Have thought on a few occasions that teams have been rather bad tempered and happy to put the foot in when coming to GGL but I will certainly let a few of them off the hook having seen yesterday's offering from Margate, hopefully that will be the last we see of that kind of discipline this season.
Enough about the opposition and more about another great performance from the Us in all areas, especially attack. It's always great to see us score a handful and perhaps it deserves more credit that we were able to get on with the game after the penalty miss at 1-0, even if the second came from a slice of good luck as the first did (take nothing away from Tom's effort though as he couldn't have hit it better). We had our customary period in the second half when we didn't look switched on but at 4-0 up I think we can be forgiven for that a little but it would be pleasing if the late goals we are conceding of late could be curbed. Fitchett continues to impress me and, though I don't think operates quite as effectively as a lone striker, he could well have had a hat trick to add to his tally today but he showed his class of finishing with the one he did take.
Excellent that we have managed to take second place back only a week after losing it and this time by a point rather than just GD. Ebbsfleet won't be worried about their form just yet despite three draws in the last four, but if they were thinking that limping over the line was an option a month ago they probably aren't now.

Whilst it doesn't excuse the Margate player's reaction, it was a bad decision by the lino to not give a throw on to Margate when the ball clearly went out of play, which was what had upset the player. Though why he should get that upset over a throw on when 4-1 down in the dying seconds of the game, only the 8 will know.

After 20 or so minutes when neither side had had a shot at goal I thought it was going to be one of those games where one would rather watch paint dry although by this point Burge had already shown his quality. Margate were physical and should have had at least one player booked early on. After we got the opener Margate fell apart. They couldn't handle Tom or keep their discipline and had 4 players booked in the first half (and not 3 as reported in the NLP).
We understandably relaxed a bit once 4-0 up. Ross had a very quiet game in goal.
I thought Tom and Stearn had their best games in a Sutton shirt and Burge had a great debut.
As for Eastmond why is he playing at this level? He was absolutely outstanding yet again and ran the show. Well done to all 14 players on what was a fantastic performance.
Let's get another 3 points next Saturday

It happened right in front of me and there was no way the ball had gone out. What a stupid reaction though!
