You should have seen the 1998 squad... Talking to Bruce t'other day and he says the 1898 squad was the best. That's was because it was the cheapest

A splendid day all round. 3-0 win and won the golden goal! They even corrected it from 2 minutes to 3 minutes without me even having to ask!!
As for the more important matter, the lads were excellent today. Very professional against a hard-working St Albans side. The excellent strength in depth was demonstrated once again, by the quality of the replacements Dos has to call upon.
Another 3 points. Now to the next one!
Well done to Dos and the boys!

In the end our quality told and we ran out quite comfortable winners, against a side that looked a little more plucky than a few weeks ago, but ultimately just cannot defend against the quality we have.
A nice early goal by Ryan to set us on our way, looks like this boy knows how to finish. We probably sat a bit too deep for much of the 1st half and allowed too many crosses into our box, with one or 2 causing problems. You always got the feeling that when we did get forward we could score though, and still had the better of the chances. 2nd half we pushed up a bit further and got the rewards, first another great move finished by that lad Ryan, and a header from a clever corner that St Albans wanted chalked off for climbing.
We certainly missed Wishy in that first half, and lack of width hindered a little. 3 goals away from home and a clean sheet, with very able debutantes taking the field at the end.
I though Downer had a great game too, shame Ebbs and Stones won though.

Winning is supposed to be a habit and it seems to be one that this team has re-acquired after something of a blip last month.
We didn't quite know what to expect from St Albans, having beaten them 5-0 at GGL in January then hearing last Saturday that they'd thrashed Whitehawk 6-0 at Clarence Park. As it turned out, last weekend's result probably said more about Whitehawk's recent collapse in form than it did about the Saints' resurgence under new manager Ian Allinson.
Ryan Burge settled any nerves by giving us a very early lead this afternoon, although Saints had the better openings in the remainder of the first half. But after half-time another neat, angled finish from Burge - his third goal in two matches - and a header from Dean Beckwith following a short corner routine - his first goal for Sutton - put us in command.
With Ebbsfleet and Maidstone also winning it's pretty much as you were in the top three, but the defeats for Gosport and Dartford have strengthened our hold on a top five place. And our form is impressive: unbeaten now in fourteen league games - one third of a season - and we remain the division's top scorers.

Efficient job done yesterday. St Albans were better in the first half but kind of ran out of steam after the break. Like the Basingstoke win on Boxing day we didn't need to work too hard. But that's fine now it's about the results that matter. On our main 2 rivals we gained 1 goal in gd otherwise it's as you were.
Title us still in our hands and we'd need a pretty poor run to miss out on a play off spot. As for our opponents they look doomed. They need to make up a minimum of 8 points on sides like havant in 10 games. Regardless of our own fate this season and barring the usual collapse of 2 non league sides, I think the chances of us visiting Clarence Park or the Soccer AM stadium next season are very very thin.
Good job by the side across the park and congratulations on another efficient win. 12 more and we're champions.

A great win for Sutton yesterday in what was my first visit to St. Albans. I was expecting a tricky game prior to kick off but our class and quality showed through in the end winning comfortably.
My first viewing of the lad Burge - he looks an outstanding addition to the squad with an absolute wand of a left foot taking his two goals very well. At the moment I find it hard to single out individuals in this special team but honourable mentions to Downer and Spence who were excellent yesterday.
No ground made up on Ebbsfleet sadly but if we win every game we have left we'll be champions! #Believe

A tremendous move down the left involving Bedsente and Dan Spence set up Ryan Burge for an early lead. It was a wonderful passage of play. City looked to strike back clearly but missed a good chance before Charlie MacDonald did very well to miss a golden opportunity with a stooping header that he put wide with the goal at his mercy. A big miss and after that but for the long throw of Chappell, City offered little as an attacking threat.
U's sat to defend the slope and were convincing in their tactic. On their forays forward Tom B left his opponent for dead and forced a good stop from Welch with Ross Stearn slipping as he looked to convert the rebound. Dan Spence also fell foul off the pitch when another great move found him in the penalty area with Welch to beat.
Second half, U's totally bossed the match. Stearn's fine leap set up Burge for his second and a training ground corner move saw Dean Beckwith open his U's account with a towering header from Stearn's lovely cross.
U's had other chances as the home side struggled against superior opposition.
A great win and Dean's first U's goal also provided Sutton with their best ever league win at Clarence Park. Never before had we won there by a 3 goal margin in league football.
Thought the back four were magnificent while the midfield stretched City with their movement and passing.
Spare a thought for City 'keeper Joe Welch. His last five matches against U's has seen him concede 4, 4, 2, 5 and 3.
A superb performance from the ref today too. Sensible, common-sense officiating - I didn't raise my voice once to him.

That report suggested that City were a little better than they actually were.Yes,with the slope, the wind & the driving rain they posed a threat and probably should have equalised.I guessed it would be a game of two halves and so it proved.Could & should have been 5 but hey ho a wins a win !
