It's nice to go to Gosport on the day we were drawn to play them as well. Bit of a novelty that one

You need to scroll down through all the uninformative clichés to find the interesting nugget that three players have recently left Gosport. This game is the start of our challenging run-in to the end of the season. If we're serious about trying to catch Ebbsfleet then I think we have to win.

Am listening to the match commentary today...................Dean Beckwith gave away a pen in the 1st min for pushing, Bennett of Gosport blasted it over the bar luckily !

Not all good news today. Downer and Fitch went off injured in the first half. Two splendid goals, however we did waste so many chances today.

That's one test passed. For the record this completed our fourth double of the season and was, I think, our first win at Privett Park. Gosport may still be in a play-off place, but are perhaps not quite the force they were a few weeks ago. That was exemplified by Justin Bennett's penalty miss in the first minute, Gosport's third failure this season to beat Ross Worner from the spot. After that they didn't offer a great deal up front, but on a bumpy pitch and with a gusty wind it took two spectacular goals to put us ahead by half-time, Ross Stearn curling one into the far corner then Dan Wishart belting the ball home when a Sutton corner wasn't cleared. The early departures of Downer and Fichett were worrying, though both were able to leave the field of play without looking in obvious discomfort. With Ebbsfleet and Maidstone both winning (the former beating Hemel 6-0), there's once again no change to the leading three or the gaps between them. But Truro, in fourth, only drew, so we've increased our lead over them to eight points. Avoiding defeat in Cornwall next weekend should come close to sealing our place in the top three. But attention now switches to our trip to Wealdstone on Monday, one of our games in hand over the two above us.

Solid performance on a difficult pitch and two fantastic goals were the positives today. The downside, two injuries and a 10th booking for Dean Beckwith which may cause a centre-back pairing headache for Dos in a fortnight.
U's survived a 43rd second penalty decision as the league's top scorer failed to hit the target let alone test Ross Worner, giving Borough the unenviable record of failing from the spot three times against U's this season.
Was it a pen? Well, some say it was but having given that the ref then failed to award free-kicks for umpteen similar challenges for the rest of the match in what was a generally inept display that fortunately, because of Bennett's miss, failed to upset the outcome.
It wasn't pretty after that but Ross Stearn's brilliant shot that curled off the outside of his boot into the corner certainly was, sublime skill and Dan Wishart's goal was no worse a great turn and thumping left footer finding the same area of the goal as Ross's.
Before that Fitch had got away twice but couldn't convert before he departed and as the game wore on U's had plenty of other opportunities to extend their lead. Boro' rarely threatened in what was a comfortable afternoon for Ross W. Good to see Louis John get a good run out but Craig Eastmond was the star of this show, a show that was so dominated by Sutton.
A big thumbs up to our defence for another clean sheet and while we have been scoring regularly in this run, it cannot be overstated how important our defence has been during it too.

A think the transfer window closes on Thursday, might see a bit of centre-back cover come in maybe?
