That seems remarkably late. Nearly a whole month after the Football League, and only gives people a month to plan the first away trip.

It is late, but I don't see why you'd need more than a month to plan a day trip or weekend, and I'm speaking as someone who has to factor a baby into my plans! You only get a couple of weeks for most cup games and often less for rearranged fixtures.
Havinf said that, I'm not sure why it isn't a week earlier like it usually is. Never mind, it is what it is so no point complaining.

Wasn't it the first week of July last season too?
I'll play my normal "What's our first game of the season" competition. I predict away to Braintree on the first Saturday, followed by home to Solihull Moors
No logic involved in that whatsoever though.....

I guess the main point is that if we've got a trek to Barrow on the first weekend of the season, it would be infinitely preferable to have 8 weeks' notice as opposed to 4 weeks in terms of getting advance train fares. With the Premier League and Football League having a head-start on us, the number of cheap train fares available will be pretty minimal by the time the National League fixtures are released.

I was going to say that usually the fixtures on the opening day of the season have never been the furthest trip (away to Maidenhead, away to Eastleigh, away to Basingstoke a couple of times, away to Braintree, home to Woking etc), but then I looked at the National opening fixtures last season. Barrow were at home to....DOVER. Quite possibly the furthest trip there was!
