How many of the 24 National League clubs have professional squads?
Are all 13 of the ex-League clubs currently professional?
Is there any discussion about SUFC turning professional?
[Personally, I think turning pro in the near future would not be sustainable for a club of our size].

I think we should just keep growing the club and facilities and consolidate at this level but as bruce sed who knows when it will end so one day we might go proe and league.

A club of our size could not support full pro football, league two teams get around £240,000 from sky, even that sum would not support a full time squad.

It will take 10 years as far as I am aware for the loan from Dos for the 3G pitch to be paid off, in that time there is obviously more revenue coming in than in previous seasons, by the time those 10 years are up (all being well) the club's profit will be significantly higher as it can keep hold of a greater percentage or revenue (or indeed spend it on something else). I would think that around that time (matters on the pitch playing a part as well) talk of 'going pro' can be given far more serious consideration than it can now.
You do not need to be pro to compete in the National League and my personal belief is that that is where we want to stay for the foreseeable future as further promotion into league football is not something we can contemplate. Naturally all clubs want to grow and I believe it will be off the pitch that most of the work gets done that way in the coming years.

Surely, in order to make a proper assessment on this question one needs to define what the terms "Pro" and "semi pro" mean in this sense. For example does it mean that the players cannot have any jobs outside of the football, or they train full time, or they choose to survive on the modest wages SUFC will pay etc etc. IMHO it is different for each club and each player within those clubs

However some younger members of the squad could be on a very modest wage.

How do you stay in the National league for the foreseeable future ? Football doesn't work like that.If you don't aim for the top you will invariably end up fighting relegation with the consequent loss of supporters etc, etc.
It will be interesting to see the difference in the standard of football & if you asked me who are the favourites next season to win the league i wouldn't have a clue.

I was rather hoping on promotion to the football league at some stage . Do they allow 3G? Or would the club then have to go back to a proper grass surface?
