We have 4 of the bottom 6 to play in our next 6 games, and probably need 6 points to be in certain safety. It's still in our hands (or feet) to determine our safe passage into next season at this level. It might feel we are under pressure but it must be worse for the opposition. Hopefully in at least one of those four games we can convert chances into goals and turn around the poor season the front line has had.

You don't get so many goal scoring chances at this level & if you spurn what you make then it puts the whole team under pressure. We made enough to win the game yesterday. As usual the first goal was crucial. If we had scored it then we would not have had to take risks at the back. On to Tuesday and a tough trip to Maidstone who are also looking for points to pull away from the bottom four. The perceived wisdom is we need another 6 points from 10 games and if we can't do that then we deserve to go down.I don't believe for one moment we will and expect us to finish in the top half of the table.

A look at the league table will tell you where our shortcomings have been this season. We haven't scored enough goals (39 in total, the fifth-lowest in the division) and we haven't won away enough (twice, the second worst after York). The result at Aldershot illustrates both.
Our leading scorers in the league are Jamie Collins and Nicky Bailey with six each. As one of those is a defender and the other a holding midfielder, that says rather a lot! Max Biamou is on five. Adam Coombes, a prolific scorer for Welling United, has still to find the net in Sutton colours after six matches. But I do feel that he'll break his duck soon.

Relegation scrap my arse. We need 6 points from 10 games to make us safe. And 10 points from those will virtually make it certain. We will be safe by the end of the eastern weekend I'm sure of it.
Saying that it was the same problem as we've had all season. Not taking our chances. To be honest I've not been that impressed by Coombes yet so far and yesterday didn't change my mind. That 1 on 1 should have been taken better. Playing him as a lone striker didn't help his cause either. We had plenty of opportunity to take that game in the first half but failed to do so. First goal caught on the break, 2nd goal irrelevant in the fact that we were always going to get caught like that. Roarie and cadogan had good first halves but realistically we are going to get a max 70min out of 90 from those two with the amount of running they did.
I'm not too upset as we lost to a side in form knocking on the play off door. Anyone going on about us getting 1 point from 9 and thats Relegation form needs to think about context. Fightback from the FA Trophy finalist, narrowly beaten by the largest budget in the league and yesterday. Next two games are more important than either of those. If we beat Maidstone and Ferriby (and there is no reason why we shouldn't especially in the case of the latter) then those 6 elusive points mean we can take on the league leaders next Tuesday with no fear and added pressure. Get a point from that game and we could be heading to kingfield on April Fools in a very good position. But this won't happen until we take our chances. We've tried a number of forwards this season and I think it's fair to say only Max has shone. Our league scoring records speaks for itself and whilst the defence is generally doing a good job, the other end isn't. Let's really push in the next two weeks and get any talk on relegation out of the way. Remember those sides in those places need to win anything from 2 to 6 more games than us to catch up. In the closing weeks of the season that's tough on them but let's make sure that we don't make their task any easier.

I posted this after the FGR match no need to write it again :
"I think you have got to look at basics for tonight's defeat, you get nothing for playing pretty football or winning the possession stats, you get points at this level by what you do at the business ends of the pitch. I think we conceded from the last corner on Saturday and the 1st tonight, we did restrict the visitors to very few efforts but enough for them to take all 3 points. Up other end we mustered one shot on target and scored from it.."
One thing to add about yesterday and that is unnecessary segregation for the sake of it. last year we were told that only a small area was made available to U's fans in error as they had underestimated how many would turn up. yet yesterday they did it again leaving 1 complete half of a terrace completely empty? I have to say they were very nice on the day, but given there has never been any issue between us and that we had no segration for the home match, i am disappointed they didn't reciprocate in anyway..

My feelings haven't changed. I don't subscribe to the 50 points mark. I think we need 52 or 53. However I can see us beating Maidstone, Ferriby, Southport, Chester and Woking so somehow I think we will be fine. I agree with Andy K re Coombes. That really was a bad miss and probably cost us at least a point. At this level you have to take these chances. Time will tell I guess but I think I'd rather have Fitch up front

Have to say me and The Boy were a bit apprehensive about going to Aldershot on Saturday but apart from the result it was an enjoyable day. Actually spoke to a couple of Shots fans and they were quite welcoming, one asked about our season ticket prices and was surprised when I told him,in fact he was almost crying into his chips after telling me he paid £300 pound for his season ticket. Not going to give my views on the match as they don't differ from anyone else's. Turned up and was surprised to be guided to a seating area which filled up pretty quickly and so they opened the stand next to it. The Boy decided he would rather stand and off we went to join in the singing and chanting, some of which I abstained from,as I didn't believe in antagonising the home fans, who were in good voice as well. That bloody drum was doing my head in though. Now looking forward to Maidstone tomorrow night,if people are driving down what time would you normally leave,as I don't want to leave too late I know the 25, 20 and 26 can be pretty chocker at rush hour.
