Good luck to the Lionesses tonight. I think our chances are going to hinge on how well we can defend. Lucy Bronze up against Megan Rapinoe should be fascinating (assuming the USA don’t do a tactical switch and stick her over to the other wing to try and take advantage of our weaker left-side). Team selection will be interesting. No doubt Neville will be tempted to keep an unchanged side, although centre-back Millie Bright has had some dodgy moments in the tournament and Toni Duggan has been rather ineffective so far.

Yes, Millie Bright has definitely been the weakest link at the back for me, and a rapacious USA side will undoubtedly seek to exploit that. But who knows, given Neville's penchant for mixing things up, perhaps she won't be in the starting XI...

I think that the Yanks will be physical in their game tonight especially if we are a bit weak on the wing, let’s hope there is a strong ref on board with decent lino’s.

England have conceded one goal in this World Cup. Keep Houghton and Bright there. Even Houghton had a couple of dodgy moments against Norway.
In the words of Kevin Keegan, I would love it if we beat them.

I'm assuming that the club are screening it?

Big team news……Karen Bardsley has injured her hamstring, so Carly Telford comes in. Fran Kirby has been dropped for Rachel Daly and Beth Mead plays on the left wing in place of Toni Duggan (I agree with that one).
Megan Rapinoe is only on the bench for the USA !!

Once again England fall just short. Very unlucky with the VAR decision ruling out the second equaliser, but then another borderline VAR decision handed England a lifeline - which wasn't grabbed. USA probably deserved the win over the 90 minutes. Disappointing to see the Lionesses lose discipline in the closing stages.

As much as I've sung Lucy Bronze's praises throughout this tournament, she was arguably our worst player out there tonight. Certainly she was at fault for USA's first goal, turning her back on the player she was responsible for marking, a cardinal sin if ever there was one. Saying that, if Houghton had coverted our penalty chance to make it 2-2 I think the momentum would've shifted in our favour as team USA were well and truly on the ropes at that time. That scuffed shot driven into the ground was the turning point in the game, with frustrations bubbling over leading to a sending off shortly thereafter. Very disappointing, so near yet so far.

Thought after a so so first half, England pushed the US all the way in the second. Not so sure it was losing discipline more of just not having the energy to make the right choices. Still, Millie Bright is a weak link in the side and never looked the part throughout the tournament.
For the life of me I can't see how that was a pen but having getting it got to make a better effort than that. Three missed out of four. Like a men's penalty shoot out performances over the years.
The US has been playing professional women's football for a long time so for England to have pushed them close shows how far the sport has come in recent years.
No disgrace in losing to the no 1 ranked side.

That's an excellent point from markf - lest we forget, the USA women's team wasn't banned from playing football for a continuous period of half a century, unlike what our FA did to scupper the development of the women's game in England [from 1921 to 1971, natch].
Speaking of teams that have come a very long way in a relatively short space of time, I hope to see more of our SUFC women's team in the forthcoming season. Two promotions in two seasons. Way to go.

Excellent point Trev, and to those who think smaller goals should have been the way to go, I must point out that few, if any, council's would have, and probably still cannot, provide pitches with goals that would meet the requirements.

Also, with the best will in the world, there is no way that SUFC could support women's football if they had to provide special sized goals on the Axminster. or indeed on the rec.
