Nice to finally register that first home win and bring some feel good factor to GGL again, but lets not get carried away, Chesterfield really played into our strengths by being the only team so far to come here and try and attack from the off, leaving acres of space behind their very rigid back four for us to exploit, which we did ruthlessly. There's a reason almost every team in this league sets up away from home with one up front, a deep back line and a holding midfielder, the spireites did none of that.
After the first five minutes it was pretty clear we were in for an open game with potential for plenty of goals. Our movement was excellent, especially our two wingers and Tommy W, who was blowing out of his arse after an energetic first half performance. However, we wont come across many poorer fullbacks that Chesterfield's no.4, who had a torrid afternoon. Judging by his squad number and build he must have been a central defender filling in, but he'll have nightmares about Ajiboye, who seems to be getting better every game.
Great to see some confidence returning to the players, Jarvis, Wright and Ajiboye in particular, and a clean sheet will have done wonders for the back 5. Onto Tuesday, and while we have several bogey sides in this division we can only claim to be one for Daggers, hopefully that continues!

Half-time yesterday and the theme music to the film "A Bridge Too Far" came out over the tannoy. I thought presssec may have been trying to pass a message on to Chesterfield but then I read later it was the 75th anniversary of Arnhem. Kbb's dad, Fred, a massive Sutton fan, was one of those who ended up as a POW because of that not so well thought out attempt to shorten WWII. Perhaps it was for him?
Either way, The Spireites were in deep do do and never looked like recovering as U's were in total control and continued to be so after the break. As others have remarked, two up front (no change there for a home match then)a returning Will Randall who had a fine match on the left to compliment David A on the other flank and after the initial sparring that saw the visitors crash an effort against the bar and Rob M go close with a fine strike, U's got the all important first goal.
Ben G put David A away in acres of space and he delivered an accurate and well weighted cross for Aaron J to convert high into the net. Not long after CFC's defence gifted Tommy W the ball and he took full advantage. I was a bit worried because he got up gingerly from the 'keepers challenge but carried on. All, I hope, good.
The visitors struggled to contain the pace on the wings, Tommy's busy work rate and Aaron's constant harrying and I was confident at h-t this match was going only one way.
Second half, CFC had more of the ball but did prescious little with it and while they enjoyed a better spell when they brought on Denton they made little inroads into a U's defence that held well throughout with Jon B like a terrier in front of them.
Omar B came on and he needs a special mention for a fine contribution providing a lovely ball that Aaron ran on to and struck fiercely past Coddington aka Billy the Fish, and then late in the piece did brilliantly to get along the bye line before finding Harry B who slid in to complete an emphatic score line.
Aaron got MotM but this was a superb team performance littered with 7's and 8's. Good to see the forwards scoring and a fine clean sheet for the back five. For Matt G, a first home win and in some style.
Got to feel for the travelling Chesterfield fans as they watch a proud old FL club struggle at the foot of the NL and on yesterday's evidence they need major surgery. That shouldn't detract from a fine Sutton team performance though as it was three fine passes that set up three of the goals and the overall workrate and play was very good.
For the ref yesterday it wasn't a difficult match and he did most stuff with little fuss. Thought Ben G's booking was harsh considering what their 8 had got away with in the first half but the only real moan about an official who has previous with Sutton.
D&R will provide a far stiffer challenge on Tuesday and the need not to give away f-k's around the box will be need to be drummed in to the team with James Dobson, who appears to be in good form for the Daggers, waiting to deliver.

Well done lads. Excellent result, decent tactics well executed and some really good individual performances. Very enjoyable. If I was to pick the man of the match it would be David Ajiboye. Maybe his best game for the club. He did have a very good game but I do think that the Referee had a very good game too. We got lots of decisions that other refs have "missed" this season.

Just one quibble about Saturday. If we're sticking with the Prokofiev it could do with being a fair bit louder. 'Angel Plastics' volume at least.
