As a married woman with young children who has only missed 1 away match in the last 15 years (and no home ones!) I have to say I appreciate the laugh this wet Monday morning. I know Billy said mostly, but as with most stereotypes that's not true either although there are quite a few who fit into that category. Not that it really matters but I did chuckle.

And as a "single bloke with no children/families to worry about" I have to say that I feel pretty normal.😊

SO, what are you saying Billy, that the Football League need to also restructure League 2 into North and South again like it was in the 1957-58 Season , because that would have to happen in order to stop "Northern" Teams being dropped down into a "Southern" National League Division if that was created !!
Having read what was happening 'live' via Twitter on Saturday, and learning that "we" weren't the only team affected by the fatality at Milton Keynes, I have to say I'm flabbergasted by some of the things I've seen written on Twitter by "fans" of the 'Home' teams affected by the cancellations that occurred...they conveniently don't seem to realise that the majority of National League teams aren't "Full Time" staff, and therefore have jobs to go to, in order to pay their bills, meaning they physically 'can't' travel up the day before as has been suggested !
[/quote]
I don't know what the answer is Dave. The re-election system of yesteryear was farcical as well.I remember that Hartlepool United benefited far more than most from it with Barrow not far behind
I don't know how many leagues had a "ceiling" so to speak where if you won the league you stayed in it,obviously the first division (now called the premier league) was one.More and more promotion/relegation especially the ridiculous playoff system has muddied the waters. How many clubs have now been in the league after it was 92 for so many years ?At the present time i would make a start by awarding all the home teams whose opponents failed to get there a 3-0 win.Is that not the rule anyway ?

In accordance with the FA Handbook 2019/20, in the event of a Competition Match not being played or abandoned owing to causes over which neither Club has control, it should be played in its entirety on a date to be mutually agreed by the two Clubs and approved by the Management Committee [see Section 20(E)(iv)]. On my understanding, there is no suggestion that our game was cancelled due to circumstances within the control of either club, so surely the usual FA rules would apply in this situation and the fixture will be rescheduled on a mutual agreeable date as per standard procedure?

The three travelling sides affected by Saturday's sad incident will effectively be penalised by now facing long away trips for Tuesday night games, entailing either overnight stays or return journeys in the early hours (not great if the players have jobs to do or other commitments the next day).

With Fylde going into the postponed game with 4 defeats on the spin, it would have been a good time to play them. But when we do they will have a new manager and I expect will be on a positive bounce from that freshness (plus the playing staff and budget at their disposal). I think the normal scheme of things is that we need to play them within a calendar month of the postponement, so if that criteria is set, possible dates will be 5th Nov (the Tues after our longest trip of the season at in form Barrow) or 19th Nov (the Tues after another long trip to Torquay). There is a chance of it being on a Saturday if both us and Fylde go out of the FA Cup this weekend as we currently have a free Saturday on 9th Nov as a result. Any of those scenarios puts us at more of a disadvantage (as Mr Aleman put very well). Kind of feels like we've been kicked when we're down.

Where on earth have I gone wrong in life ! My wife and daughter do not even watch football on tv let alone go to an actual match . Many years ago when our daughter was about seven I took her to GGL for her first match . I went there in the hope that she would become as passionate as me about our beloved SUFC and I had a vision of many a shared Saturday afternoon watching matches and eating pies at halftime . This dream lasted all of about ten minutes when she looked at me and asked if it was nearly all over yet ! So , Sallycat , do you have a sister !!

You've very little control over it mate, just the way things have turned out. If you like, I'm a good example of the opposite. My dad has absolutely no interest in football and my mum tolerated it at most. Because he didn't like football, he didn't ever take me, mum was a nurse so Saturday afternoons were awkward what with working shifts...……….yet I started going on my own from the age of 10, got totally hooked, was doing most away games just 4 years later and it's by far and away my no1 hobby, interest, call it what you will. It's either in you or it's not!

Very true medwaysider . My wife did come to a match with me once , when she was my girlfriend , but that was not repeated .
I cannot now remember the match I took my daughter to but I do recall it being a 2-2 draw . The thing that really struck me was we were 1-0 up at the time and I had even “treated” her to a seat in the stand !
Whats more she now quite likes watching eggchasing (rugby ) and I really cannot understand the attraction of that sport in any shape or form . As I point out to her even the ball is the wrong shape !

GGL To be honest I do really enjoy rugby (union that is, not that league nonsense that they play along the M62 where they don't know how to scrummage or kick or line out) but it's a distant second to football and always will be.
In fact, I'm seeing my ex-wife next month and we're taking in both - Gloucester v Toulouse in the (European Cup) rugby then a non-league game the following day. Destination yet to be decided but North Leigh, Wantage Town and Swindon Supermarine are all in the mix!

Medwaysider , I’m sorry but it’s all the same to me . That said I can quite happily watch some NFL on tv and really quite enjoy it but for some reason rugby just leaves me baffled and bored . Quie a contradiction !

GGL, Similarly, I find it very difficult to get into NFL. Baffled would also be my word for it. When there is action taking place it looks intriguing but one of my main problems with it (and a lot of American sports for that matter) is the amount of stoppages and time outs. NFL it seems to me you get 20 seconds of action and then you can wait another 5 mins for the game to restart. As for NBA, Christ, I watched a bit of a game last year and there were 46 seconds left on the clock. It took almost 20 seconds to finish the game and the final "time out" was called with 2 seconds left on the clock when one side was 4 points ahead anyway!

Hi medwaysider , I agree with all of your comments . For me I like all the razzmatazz surrounding NFL , the action is almost incidental after a while . It’s almost surprising that American soccer lasts for 45 minutes without a break !

GGL, If I was ever in the States and there was a game on I'd still be tempted to have a look just to chalk up another experience plus I'm a bit of an anorak when it comes to stadia but it'd have to be somewhere warm like Miami or Dallas, I wouldn't fancy freezing the crown jewels off in an uncovered stand for 4 hours! Very expensive as well - totally puts the Premier League in the shade. Friends of mine are off to Boston next month and the official tickets (not some sold out agency job) are roughly £350 each and that's for relatively cheap seats!

I took our two sons to an NFL game at the impressive Joe Robbie Stadium in 1990.The game was Miami Dolphins against Phoenix Cardinals. The star player at the time was Dan Marino, but i can't remember the score. Not my cup of tea but the boys enjoyed it which was the main thing. We ended up taking them to see quite a few games of The London Monarchs team at Wembley over the next year or so in what, i have just looked up ,was called The WLAF.Wasn't the old Sutton goalkeeper Ronnie Fearon involved (as a kicker, nice work if you can get it) for one of those NFL teams ?
