Am I the only person who doesn't rate Ben Goodliffe and thinks he is only in the team because his dad is the assistant manager?
He can't seem to deal with crosses into the box and he seems to lose his man more often than not. I saw more from Pearce in the few games he played for us last season than I have from Ben.

I disagree I have seen him have some very good games. I also think that whilst people are entitled to their opinion and will give it regardless of what I think my opinion is that this singling out of players when the whole team is not producing results quite unsavoury and potentially counter productive if any of the players look at this forum.

Like all young players he won't be consistent and with Dan alongside him we are playing two young centre backs. When Jamie is fit again it will certainly help who he plays alongside. Pearce benefited enormously playing alongside Jamie but he is still getting back to full fitness after his injury. I thought Pearce was an equally good centre back as the other youngsters.

This is the sort of comment that causes me to be accused of being “terse”. If you don’t rate Ben, fair enough. But why the snide remark about his Dad? Childish and irresponsible. P.S. I understand that Tony Dolbear is thought by some to be TonyD and is taking the blame for some of my posts. I am not he.

In what way is it irresponsible to say that?
He wouldn't be the first player in football to have benefited from whom his father is.
As for comments on individual players I find amusing. It is ok to praise individuals, such as Harry for putting his heart and soul into a match and crying at the end of it having lost, but we can't say whether we think a player isn't at the grade or putting in the effort incase it shatters their confidence?
They are footballers, many of which will have ambitions to play at higher levels. If they can't take some judgement on their performances then they should perhaps stick to playing non competitive matches with their mates rather than playing at a national level in front of thousands of people who will be judging them. It would only get worse the higher up they go.
This is a fans forum yet the sanitised nature of it is exactly why a lot of supporters don't bother with it any more.
The team might not be performing well at present but I feel we need just a few changes to improve things which I believe is a better centre back alongside Skip who can defend balls into our box, a keeper who can come and collect corners/crosses and command his area and a proper right back so we are not playing our best midfielders there.

Without repeating myself it's pretty straightforward.
Everyone has the right to their opinion but it's best to bear in mind two points.
A) With that right comes responsibility and any post you make may have unintended outcomes. When someone is negative about a player, that player will always have the chance of reading it. Not all of them will have thick skins (especially the younger ones) and theres a chance that it could negativity impact on their performance as a result. There have been plenty of examples where this has been the case, the most recent being Aaron Drinan last season who basically had the stuffing knocked out of him due to what was almost a relentless campaign by a small group of Sutton fans. Any player playing for us is unlikely to improve if they are being slagged off, either in person or online.
B) With your right to your opinion comes the right for anyone else to challenge your opinion. If you don't want that challenge then don't offer it. You have no right to take that away from others.

Drinan could have been negatively impacted by criticism or just simply not been very good!

That was just an observation to add to the conversation, no need for sarcasm! I thought he was probably right about that one though.

I was involved in a conversation with Dos at Preston railway station last December (after our game at AFC Fylde) in which he said that both Drinan and Ayunga had been badly affected by negative comments about them made by certain Sutton fans on social media. I can't think of any reason why he'd say that if it were untrue.
The bottom line is that if you criticise a player on a public forum then you have to accept the risk that he'll see that criticism and that it will have a negative impact. Better in my view to restrict overt criticisms to private conversations (of which there are many).
