With the news breaking today of manager John Sheridan's departure from Chesterfield, it seems timely to start this thread. Their former academy manager John Pemberton will be in charge for our visit on Saturday.
The Spireites are of course having a very poor season and currently sit third from bottom in the table, five points adrift of Dagenham & Redbridge in 20th place. They've lost seven of their last ten games and only won one of those (a 3-0 victory at similarly out-of-form Torquay). They haven't won at home since October.
A Sutton win would see us completing a double (the second in four days), having beaten Sheridan's team 4-0 at GGL in September. But this will also be the players' fifth game in fifteen days, and a certain amount of fatigue would be excusable.
My recommended pub is the Beer Parlour (1 King Street North S41 9BA), just off the Sheffield Road about five minutes' walk to the north of the Proact Stadium. Originally a bottle shop, and now a bigger-than-average micropub, it offers a warm welcome to visiting fans with a choice of around eight ales on handpump plus real ciders. A bunch of us ended up in there after last season's game (before moving on to the Derby Tup round the corner).

Craig Eastmond has been a vital player in Matt's best 11 during the recent upturn in form so it is infuriating for him to get a red card for misconduct after the final whistle. A 4 match ban (second sending off this season) will mean he is able to return for Halifax away.

There was a confrontation after the final whistle between Craig Eastmond and Chesterfield's Mike Fondop-Talom which saw both players red-carded. There may be some history to this, dating back to last season when Fondop-Talom was with Maidenhead.
As for the game, I thought a draw would have been a fair result. We missed the incisive wing-play of Ajiboye and Randall, both presumably unfit. Chesterfield showed a grittiness that perhaps they've been lacking lately. Their goal (Jonathan Smith again) came after we failed to clear the ball following a corner. We had a late equaliser disallowed, apparently for a foul on the keeper. Our officials may wish to study any footage of that incident.
We stay 12th. Twelve points from our last five games is a more than acceptable haul.
EDIT: according to our official report, the equaliser was disallowed for handball.

Definitely a below par performance from the team (by comparison with the other games over the Xmas period), but quite understandable given the number of minutes the guys have played in the last fortnight. Tiredness was evident in the teams lack of sharpness and decision making. 12 point from the last 15 is a pretty good return though!
Chesterfield were nothing special, just a functional unit who seemed happy to spend much of the first half soaking up pressure and then capitalising on some weak defending soon after the interval, converting with possibly their only chance all game. Tommy had a couple of chances early on and Harry was not on the money with his FK. Once we went behind, the clear opportunities seemed to dry up. Not clear why our goal was ruled out. On another day....
2 weeks now to rest and recuperate !

For the record, our "goal " was disallowed as ball was put in via Ben G's hand.
Both David A and Will R missed match through injury which was hardly a surprise following their exits on NYD.

Commentary said they thought it was ruled out due to a Goodlift handball?
Should have got something from the game but really blew all them chances in the final 15 mins, so got to kick ourselves, as I think Craig has to do after getting sucked in at the end, his 4 match ban is much more painful then the narrow defeat.
12pts from 15 is a brilliant return for the last 2 weeks, but bloody hell 'Eastie' NO!

Craig will be a big miss for us for sure but looking on the bright side what a tremendous effort they have all put in over the Christmas period . They all deserve and no doubt need this two week rest and I for one am quite happy that we are out of the Trophy this season so that this can happen .
Donโt suppose our budget will stretch to a weeks break in Dubai for them to enjoy some sunshine along with many of the Scottish teams during their winter break ? Perhaps a day trip to Brighton instead !

The run was always going to end eventually. It's fair to say other results went our way, and we should be able to stay well clear of trouble and watch the likes of today's opponents battle it out.
Well done to the staff and players for the recent excellent form and bringing some joy back to the club again. A 2 week break is much welcome, for players and fans alike no doubt. That was a LOT of football in a short space of time.

Just ran out of gas: 12 out of 15 over the hols is a magnificent return and one I admit I never felt this group was capable of - delighted to be wrong. Jon Barden must have had a box of Duracell batteries for Xmas; although the team as a whole looked leggy he ploughed up and down all day long and had come on leaps and bounds in recent weeks. Thought Kenny D had a fine game too. Kyel Reid hasnโt done if for me yet, and persisting with him on the right flank when he is so left footed confused me. Sad to see Chessie as a club so bereft of everything when they are capable of so much more. Last time I sat in that end was in a crowd of 10,000 in 2011 as they won Div 2 (and I lived in the town that season and regularly attended). Rise up soon, but ditch that knob who plays upfront - foot like a spoon and attitude that stunk, as his running away from the ref at the end showed

I don't know how many people clocked their guy who got sent off but after running away and the ref giving him the red card he turned towards the ref to go and give him a thump only for one of his team mates to do the right thing and physically hold him back. I hope that's in the refs report too.
Yeah it was just a game too far for us I think. Chesterfield look pretty weak and based on that performance I think they're going to struggle for the rest of the season. They nicked a goal, we didnt get one. It felt like the Barrow game but with less quality from both sides. Just one of those days and nothing really to feel too downbeat about.
