For those who have not heard or seen my messages on social media my Dad, Derek, passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning.
His health had been getting progressively worse over the past year but he still wanted to come down to home games even in a wheelchair. His last game before having to go into care was the 4-0 win over Chesterfield, so at least he saw us do well.
I will post details of his funeral once I have them, all who would like to pay tribute are warmly welcome.

Many of us, including me, really loved your dad and we saw him as a fixture of the club. We will all fondly remember him and I'm sure his spirit will remain round GGL for many years to come. My sincere and deep condolences.

I was so sad to hear this news. Derek was one of the original members of what I think of as my Sutton United family - those who always say hello, who you can depend on to be there and who are just great people who make our great club what it is.
It hasn't been quite the same for a little while since he's stopped coming and it won't be quite the same again, but Ray, your Sutton United family will always be here for you even though your dad is no longer with us.
He was a proper fan, Derek was.

I would like to thank my good friend Dave Rayner for posting this heartfelt message for me.
What sad news regarding Derek and of course my thoughts go to Ray who was inseparable from his Dad as well as the "Sutton United Family" who would have appreciated Derek's presence and comradeship over many years. He was one of your own. Some time ago Derek was very ill and I conversed with Ray at great length who was greatly concerned. Happily Derek recovered to enjoy great times in the following period. Whilst assisting managing the team I invariably got to the ground early and more often than not Derek and Ray were there already with, from memory, a pint of Bombadier in hand, we used to joke that he was taking his medicine. I valued our regular informative chats as they took my mind off the heat of battle that was about to commence in a couple of hours time. My sincere condolences go to Ray and fellow SUFC supporters who have lost a good man, I know you will all support Ray in these difficult days ahead.
