To confirm, the game has been called off after the club got in touch with me this evening. After tonight's announcement, we were left with little choice, and it's the right decision to do so.
As for 'irresponsible' or 'waiting two days' for me to call this off. I've been in constant contact with the club the whole week. Until the announcement today, only hours ago, there was nothing that made me feel the need to call the game off. Goals and Powerleague have only just shut down, and we weren't planning on using bar or changing rooms anyway.
I've spent a hell of a lot of time and effort this week trying to organise this to help the club, not myself. We were paying for hire and I've posted several programmes to interested buyers already, maybe it will become a collectors item in years to come. I've never looked to take advantage of anyone or anything and feel I've made the appropriate decision at the time all the way through. Judge me if you like - I even went to the quiet country pub my brother works at tonight for his last ever shift.
The club have been excellent with this, and the right decision has been made in the end.
The game WILL be rearranged for when this settles down. MSS have very kindly offered to be the Supporters Team's first opposition still. The one good coming of this is the younger lot plan to keep this team going, so keep an eye out.
Take care everyone, and see you soon.
Johnnie

The coronavirus situation has been changing very rapidly over the last seven days. Less than a week ago over 2,000 people watched Sutton v Hartlepool at GGL. Now we're all strongly advised to stay at home. It was hard to anticipate that seismic shift in such a short space of time.

Johnnie Firstly Johnnie, no one is judging you, we all know you had good intentions, from my perspective this never really had a chance of going ahead as the ground was being swallowed up so fast under your feet. Its been clear to me for a couple of weeks now this would happen, we are all in uncharted waters, this situation is new to people throughout the world not just our club. Its not for me to announce other things that have been in the planning, I will leave that for the club who are rightly keen to make any approach a coordinated one. Only to say that clearly we need to move things online, and bring the club to people in their living rooms. I do know that some exciting things are in the offing. We are going to get through this and we are going to get through it together, so cheer up Johnnie

Take care everyone, and see you soon. Johnnie I understand why, but you don't need to take this personally. When those messages were posted all we knew was the game was still on and in light of the news especially in the last couple of days, to play it would have been irresponsible of not only you, but all of the other players and of the club. That's not the case. If you were irresponsible you would have said "sod it we will just go down the rec and use jumpers for goalposts". Which you've not. So no one is calling you irresponsible and us that know you know you don't do these things to make it all about you. I totally see why you are upset but as we've all seen, the best laid plans unravel around us. Like I said before if it was possible for it to happen I think it's a wonderful idea for many reasons. But this is out of all of our control and sadly we have to make sacrifices to survive. Something I'd never thought I'd ever have to say.

Hi johnnie1 , we SUFC fans applaud you for trying to organise a match that would have helped our club and helped to cheer everybody up . We need things like this to look forward to in difficult times like this even if on this occasion it did not come off . So , as Mourinho would say “chin up” and go again 😃😃😃😃

A big thumbs up Johnnie from me down here in Oz. Surreal times we all currently find ourselves in and well done on your efforts to try and support the club

Perhaps just another boring suggestion here, but with Leyton Orient organising a FIFA Quaranteam, what’s to stop you lot organising a non-league/supporters FIFA Pro Clubs tournament and streaming it on Twitch etc? I’m sure some of you lot are useful...

Hi, Yes, that's hopefully in the pipeline. We do have a volunteer to set it up but he may need help. So any FIFA experts, please email me.
As has been suggested above, we might not have any live football to give you but the club does want to stay engaged with everyone and help us all through this emergency in whatever ways we can.
We already have some ideas that we hope to launch fairly soon but if anybody has any suggestions, keep 'em coming!

We could do an online Q&A or quiz? Be on the forum at a certain time and have people asking questions. I'll think a bit more about how to make that work.

Personally I have now reached a new low point . In a desperate attempt to watch live sport I have found myself watching Aussie egg chasing on Sky Sports . Apologies to any egg chasing lovers out there but it has NEVER appealed to me but here I am 😩. Desperate times !

Yes, various quiz formats being looked at. Trying to work out how to make them workable, and we will probably need a bit of help. Anyone got time on their hands.....

How about loading some classic Sutton games on to YouTube, apologies if they are already there.
If they are, how about posting the links in a new post?
