This link does not give full details, merely access to a political party's attempt to frustrate any attempt to improve active travel.

Sorry, no political views intended. We were advised that Sutton Council is planning to close York Road at the Bridge, initially for 6 months but could be permanent. The intention is to discourage car use, and get people to switch to cycling and walking. The post was only meant to raise awareness of the scheme.

My objection is the way political parties (of all colours) use these "petitions" to harvest contact details in the guise of local concern. However here is not the place for this discussion as Dave says, the original post was not meant to be political.

I would suggest that closing York Road bridge could be a major impediment for those at the game travelling North / South if there was any closure at the Sutton by pass junction. Its fine encouraging people to walk/cycle but not everyone has that option and not all who did it in the dry summer months will want to do it on cold wet days.

I still get Lib Dems emailing me. Haven't the heart to tell them I left Sutton 3.5 years ago.
Have to say the closure may adversley affect my journey at times but as a non-resident I won't be complaining.

Not everyone has the option of using a car too. I'm just an ordinary bloke who drives my car, walks, cycles and uses public transport depending on the nature and purpose of the journey. I occasionally drive to GGL via York Road and the closure would inconvenience me a bit but I won't be complaining. To do so would be hypocritical of me because I believe walking and cycling should be encouraged not least because it improves the lives of residents on rat runs such as York Road.

Not sure why you would choose to use York Road as a rat run but i believe its the only North South crossing of the railway between the High street and the bypass and an important road link.

The aptly named Bridge Road also has a bridge that spans the north/south crossing of the railway line between the High Street and the bypass (assuming you're referring to the A217/Belmont Rise).
