What a year it has been , no one could have foreseen where we are now, no end in sight to any real changes in the C19 outcome. It is worth looking back a year ago ( when we were watching live football - remember that ! )
It was Matt and Jason's first full season in charge, after a full pre-season programme. Dos had previously departed to Hampshire along with several of the Players . The new reality at that time 2019 ,was that the spending budget was considerably reduced . ( Little did we know what was around the corner for this year.) The team wern't playing well and struggling to score goals and win matches.
Many so-called fans took to social media to openly Criticise Matt, from behind the anonymity of a keyboard they had a beano ! - " He's obviously out of his depth "Not up to the job "The board have made a mistake "Lacks experience at this level "Get dos back " Blah Blah Blah.
Matt at the evening Q & A stated he was confident he would turn things round and the results would come . His style of play was to use the Flanks and get crosses in the box for the strikers.
Any one who attended the evening could not help but be reassured by Matts honesty and commitment to succeed. ( no sign of the online Trolls at the Q&A evening to put their points face to face in person to Matt and Jason .)
This year he has signed his own new players, where his previous experience as a scout has paid off, Signing David Adjiboye , Ben Wyatt, Will Randall ,Coby Rowe ( we all wish him well and a speedy recovery) also others joined to strengthen the squad . As well as utilising the more experienced players to guide the younger players into the team.
A year on Matt has stuck to the style of play that he preferred, and is now getting the results and silencing the critics. He has done a brilliant job with all that this year has turned up, keeping the players motivated and Match fit in a remote setting, not an easy job, being ready to play when the need eventually arises.
The real Sutton family has pulled together to help where necessary, well done to all who have contributed to United we Stand. We all miss being together on matchdays with all that it entails, hopefully it wont be too much longer before we are back again ,cheering on the team in person.
