Is a locally based charity in Wallington, helping Suttons homeless,. They are not a multinational charity without plush West end offices offices and no high office rent overheads.
Virtually all their helpers are local volunteers who give their time freely to help.
They receive many donations of Food from many of the local well known Supermarkets, Bakers, Cafes, and Coffee shops with their daily donations of unsold food. For which SNW are always very grateful, it is either stored or frozen for later use or be made into satisfying hot meals and food parcels by their many hard working Kitchen volunteers , for their service users.
It is the policy of SNW to make sure that no one goes to sleep on an empty stomach- Check out the website and the #55 Appeal.
Their are several different types of homelessness:-
1) The rough sleepers - which tend to have a more visible presence around our streets.
2) The hidden homeless- can be any age, Male/Female, could be staying overnight with a friend / sofa surfing, having to go out during the day. May have moved out because of a disagreement with Parents or Step parents, or have been in ,( and had to get out of ) an abusive relationship.
Could be the result of a relationship breakdown , had to move out and no family to stay with. Someone I know had to spend 6 winter months sleeping in his car after a marriage breakdown, after being declined even temporary accommodation by a neighbouring District Council.
3) The recent Pandemic Homeless, an increasing number who may have worked full time on a Zero hours contract , No Work -- No Pay ! could have Been Freelance , or Self Employed, now through no fault of their own, they are out of work, their savings have run out .
They are now struggling to feed their families and themselves. They may have to soon move out of private rented accommodation and claim benefit - for the first time in their lives, they could become homeless. This is a ticking time bomb and will affect more as time goes on. We probably all know someone who is in this last category
Please now see the seasonal appeal being launched by the Supporters Club.
