Let's hope that on the 16th May Bishop Stortford fans won't come on here and remind us what happened 40 years ago on that day!
Not that I was around to witness it.

That semi-final versus Bangor City occurred towards the end of my first full season as a regular attendee at Sutton United was the first time I witnessed a big vocal crowd at GGL. I think there was about 2500 in that sunny spring day, I remember the team were very dominant and the result was not in doubt from early on.
I couldn't quite believe that we were going to Wembley. As a kid, I didn't even consider the possibility of defeat in that final...and in that manner too - dreams crushed!!

Fortunately I, with a few others, managed to get into the players and officials marquee on the pitch. That helped soften the blow of Wembley 81.
Next morning was when it really hit home.
As for the sf, my abiding memory is of Bobby Green leading the post match celebrations. He was so elated about the thought of playing at Wembley. Great evening

I remember that day at Wembley, old Fred gave me a tot of Whiskey before the match. Sat right next to the famous steps and watched Strotford walk down them with a cup they didn't deserve that day. Despite the loss a great evening back at the club.
It doesn't seem 40yrs ago though..
