One of my writers is pulling together a piece on Sutton's remarkable rise and we're wondering if we could get some fan insight?
What, or who, has been key to this season - to come from mid-table to promotion is incredible. Seems like Gray has built on the foundations of Doswell.
The structure of the club appears to have brought gradual progression as opposed to some other boom-or-bust models and has shown up some so-called 'bigger' former FL sides. Still semi-professional too?!!
Feel free to reply here or DM - will refer back to Amber Planet too in the piece.

It’s worth remembering that Chairman Bruce used to say (quite rightly in my opinion) that our natural level was National League South, the highest level of semi-pro football. So the club was over-achieving even in the NL amongst all the full time pro clubs. So, as a supporter for 50+ years I’ll give my awards in order of contribution.
1. The chairman and directors, who have run the club for so many years in a fiscally responsible way and thus avoided the pitfalls experienced by so many clubs at our level.
2. Paul Doswell, who revitalised the club and energised the commercial activities, as well as bringing success on the pitch.
3. Matt Grey and Jason Goodliffe, who built on the squad they inherited with astute signings and organised the team into a very effective unit.
4. The team, the best I’ve seen at GGL. But they would’ve been wasted if it wasn’t for 1-3 above.

And talking of surnames, Sir Matt Gray seems well overdue already.

I can add only a few peripherals to Tony D's great reply. 5/ Matt had one change of heart since he arrived. He was against taking players on loan because he believed it only benefited the lending club. Since changing his mind he has borrowed astutely and built a winning team. 6/ Discipline. Sutton have had fewer suspensions this season than for years past. 7/ The ball. For 4 years up to end of last season all VNL clubs were using the Jako ball. That ball had noticeably less drag on a 3G pitch compared with say the FA cup balls we used alongside it. This season the New Balance ball holds up much better, and that has enabled Sutton to improve their performances at home.
