Watching the goals go in this season and ending up as top scorers in the league, its not hard to feel that we had a really top strike partnership playing this season. But was it the best? Were Omar and Tanto (and latterly Donovan) better than our no. 9's/no.10's of previous campaigns?
How would Tommy Wright and Ross Lafayette fared by comparison, or Max Biamou/Roarie Deacon? Or for those with longer memories Lenny Dennis/Paul McKinnon?
Who were the most exciting to watch? Which had the telepathic understanding? Which 2 would have wreaked greatest havoc on opposing defences?

For those with even longer memories - Ricky Kidd and Graham Dennis.

I thought about other pairings too but then many on here would not have had a chance to see those you mention. Kept it recent with a nod to the 80's for the oldies!!

Graham Dennis was my favourite player when I was a kid. Similar style and approach to Matt Le Tissier. Ricky Kidd played more like Kevin Keegan.

I'd have said GD was more of a midfield player, with Ricky playing up front with a more traditional centre-forward such as Jim Brown or Tony Coppin.
I remember seeing GD in the reserves and both Dad and I were convinced he would be a first team star. TBF that wasn't a hard call to make.

The Joyce-McKinnon partnership in the old Isthmian League days managed 62 goals in 1979/80 and 81 goals in 84/5. In between their partnership was often interrupted by Macca playing elsewhere. Both scored for fun in the Conference as well.

McKinnon and anyone TBH. Fabulous player at our level, would have loved to see him alongside Tommy Wright.

Dom Feltham and anyone in the 90s. He was usually 5yds quicker in his head than anyone on the pitch

No doubt in my mind - Joyce-McKinnon
They did it season after season and against all opposition, Joycey turned down going pro, and McKinnon played European football with Malmo and went on to play for Blackburn Rovers. Between the pair of them I think they got about 1000 goals for the U's.
So absolutely no contest for me...

Remember our first season in the Conference? We were struggling them Macca came back from Scandinavia and everything was alright.
Can we also have a shout out for Joff Vansittart?

Macca, of course, was initially signed as a fullback from Woking, if memory serves. Which reminds us me that the first time I saw Malcolm McDonald he was playing as a fullback for Fulham. Two Maccas, two converted fullbacks, two amazing scorers.

The 1,000 goals is a bit of an exaggeration, closer to 500 between them.
Agree, Paul McKinnon with anyone but in 89/90 his partnership with Efan Ekoku was the most lethal in the GMVC.
You could go back much further and say anyone with Charlie Vaughan but in truth there wasn't really a partnership, just Charlie.
