I have just spent an idle 60 minutes or so calculating the distances and journey times for the team and me from rural Oxfordshire to attend away games next season. Depending on who wins the play offs Bromley being the closest to Gander Green Lane and Hartlepool the furthest, the team will have either at "best" have an increase in average away journeys of 42.9 miles or "worst" 55 miles, approximately 45 -60 minutes extra time on a coach.
For me I have Northampton, Swindon, Bristol Rovers, Newport, Forest Green, which are significantly quicker than trips to Gander Green Lane
and Orient, Stevenage, Crawley and Walsall approximately the same journey time give or take 5 minutes.
Promotion and relegations from and to League 2 have generally made League 2 a little less northern centric for the coming season. Pity Southend didn't stay up and Barrow weren't relegated.
We will be playing 11 new opponents Rochdale
Northampton Exeter
Carlisle
Crawley
Port Vale
Bradford
Mansfield Town
Oldham
Walsall
Scunthorpe
We have lost to Swindon away in the FA Cup in 1981 and lost also 2-1 to Bristol Rovers in a friendly at GGL in 2015 , We have never played league football against Colchester but beat then 4-3 away in 1993 in the FA Cup.

Hello fellow Oxfordshire exile. How rural are we talking? I’m in Banbury. I’m sure there’s at least one other board member now living in Oxfordshire.

We have played league football against Colchester - in the GM Vauxhall Conference in the 1990-91 season. Lost 1-0 home and away, the away game at the old Layer Road ground seeing Tony Rains keep goal for virtually the whole game after Nick Sullivan had been injured in the first minute. We also played them that season in the Bob Lord Trophy at Sutton and won 2-0. We were relegated at the end of the season but Colchester stayed at that level for one more season before being promoted back to the Football League in 1992.

I was one of the stewards that day, and we were all given a photocopy in the stewards briefing with 15 or so pictures of Colchester fans who were known troublemakers or had been banned from going to games. If I recall it was the only time when I was stewarding we'd ever got that, and the one on the sheet I remember above all the others was only known as "Mr Bubbles"!

Of course we got full revenge for that when Fitzroy McCaulsky did his Black Power salute after being abused thoughout the half. The home supporters went nuts - it was fantastic!

They even sing an obscene song about him.

Didn't we win the Bob Lord Trophy but couldn't defend it because we got relegated? Or am I dreaming?

I don't think it was ever played again, which make us still the holders. Does that mean we have done the double ?
