Thought this would happen some time ago
Contractors seemed to lack urgency when the weather was good (including the last two days) one or two tractors at the most on the pitch at any one time when spreading or levelling the sand. Couple of guys with a rake. They have fallen a long way short of the season start target. Hope we have a missed deadline clause in the contract. 500k is not a small job.

Let's look at this as good news. Our wonderful players deserve a perfect pitch and hopefully that's exactly what they are going to get.

Hi, sorry but it is simplistic. Firstly, contractors cannot just work whatever hours they choose. Secondly, just because the rain stops does not mean the pitch can be worked on. One of the biggest issues is that the rain has been so frequent and so heavy that the ground becomes sodden and if a heavy vehicle drives over it then the surface layers just become compacted and that defeats the object. So it needs an extended dry spell to dry out the ground.

I am not criticising anyone, just saying that with a such tight schedule the deadline of 14 was probably already doomed weeks ago. The grass needs some time before it can be played on so probably even the deadline of 28 of august is quite close

Everything was on schedule until the series of downpours that started about two weeks ago

I'm genuinely not meaning to be critical of anyone. The volunteers who run the club do an amazing job - and trying to get Sutton United ready to play in the EFL is clearly a huge task. I just think that the deadline of 14 August always looked optimistic - even if we were on schedule up to recently. Heavy rain in England - even in July - can never be ruled out - so not really a totally 'unexpected challenge' (a bit like trains being cancelled because of leaves on the line). I just hope that this doesn't add too much to the already huge challenge facing the team this season. My thanks once again to everyone involved in the massive transformation process of preparing Sutton United for life in the EFL.

Yes, it does rain in July but this has been one of the wettest on record and August has hardly started blisteringly hot.
Next week is looking better though. Fingers crossed.

Very good news that they have started sowing the grass today. Of course, our situation is not unique. Newport are also 'renovating' their pitch - and they asked the EFL a month or so ago to move their first scheduled home game on 14.8.21 against Mansfield to Mansfield's ground - and advised at the time that they may need to reschedule other games.

Everytime I look at this thread that damn song Sowing the Seeds of Love by Tears For Fears enters my head.
Mind you, grass looks like it is growing!
Unless it is still the matting.
