We can only speculate on why G&N elected to change their name, but they are in the middle of a regeneration area that will one day house 30,000 people in close proximity to them and will be widely known as Ebbsfleet (or Ebbsfleet Valley)

Correct.
Formed as Llansantffraid FC in 1959, they took the name of their sponsors in the 1996 - dropping the Llansantffraid from Total Network Solutions Llansantffraid FC moniker a year later. In 2003 they merged with cash-strapped neighbours, Oswestry Town FC (UEFA weren't happy that an English team and Welsh team could merge, though both played in the Low).
In early 2006 the club's sponsor, Total Network Solutions, was taken over by British Telecom, as a result of which the sponsorship arrangement lapsed at the end of 05/06 and it became necessary to find a new name for the club. After a trawl for naming ideas, including an attempt to sell the naming rights on eBay, the name "The New Saints" was agreed upon as appropriate to the clubs' history — Llansantffraid was always known as "The Saints", while Oswestry had strong connections with Saint Oswald, while handily retaining the initials "TNS".

Don't get too hung up on our new director, he played for Sutton United not Manchester United You may recall that last year we appointed Dave Mathers to the Board. Lee is part of an ongoing process of strengthening the board with younger directors who bring different skills and different business strengths and contacts. Don't forget that Andrew is in his 90s now and several of the board are in their 70s. It's good for my ego though, the one place I can go where people still refer to me as "young man" !

Llansantffraid are looking to start up another team as TNS are looking to move to Oswestry by 2010 thus leaving the village without a 'local' side. The new team's going to be called Llansantffraid Village FC and they're application for one of the lower Welsh leagues is being discussed this Summer.

My comment about a change of name was, of course, entirely humourous, but I did wonder if the new Director would bring contacts that might lead to a new main sponsor (or even if his company might become the main sponsor themselves). Am I right in thinking that G4Securicor have ended their main sponsorship and that we haven't yet got a replacement?

We are indeed still looking for a major sponsor. There are ongoing discussions with several companies but we haven't crossed the finishing line yet.
