We are getting a number of questions about tickets for individual games.
Because we are now required to know exactly how many people are in the stadium at any particular time, all spectators must have a ticket that carries a bar-code, and these will be scanned on entry so that a live count can be seen in the control room. To achieve this we are having to modify our turnstiles and our approach to ticketing.
The last few details are currently being finalised with our new ticketing partners and we will then be able to announce what the exact match day arrangements will be. But we can confirm that individual tickets will be available in advance online and can also be bought on matchday from the ticket "booth" - note that nobody can pay on the turnstiles themselves, they will be cashless and entry will be by scanned ticket only.

My question is linked to what I posted about this on another thread a week or two ago:
Will the attendance announced over the loudspeakers at Sutton (assuming that they will be) and announced in the newspapers be the ACTUAL attendance at the game, or the number of tickets sold for the game (I.e. will ST holders be included in the announced attendance irrespective of whether or not they actually attended a particular game)?

I fail to see the logic of counting the exact number of spectators in the ground and then announcing via the tannoy or publishing in the newspapers a figure which includes non appearing S/T holders., I wouldn’t think that that would go down well with the relevant authorities. As davef states that,
“Because we are now required to know exactly how many people are in the stadium at any particular time, all spectators must have a ticket that carries a bar-code, and these will be scanned on entry so that a live count can be seen in the control room. There is no problem having the two figures, an actual attendance and a paid attendance. In terms of what we announce, we have yet to decide, but having the two figures does help us plan for future games.

There is no problem having the two figures, an actual attendance and a paid attendance. In terms of what we announce, we have yet to decide, but having the two figures does help us plan for future games. The key phrase being “we have yet to decide”. In my experience, for I’d guess at least the last 6 years or more, football league (and PL) clubs announce the paid attendance rather than the actual attendance, because that will be higher and therefore more attractive to all the sponsors. I say that from experience as a regular ST holder at Huddersfield Town, where (when we were recently in the PL) the same exact attendance was given out at game after game, indicating a complete sell out, even though there’d easily be 1-3k empty seats scattered around the stadium. And from looking at forums of other clubs, HTAFC were no different to anyone else. The “attendances” announced at Arsenal and Manchester United for many games, for example, are notoriously and laughably incorrect for many a game. I would much prefer to know the actual attendance at a game, but I’m afraid it’s not as simple as that these days.

I can't get terribly worked up about which method is used. What's important to me is that clubs in any particular league are consistent with each other in the way that they report their attendances, so that meaningful comparisons can be made.

Yes. The reports don't really matter. It's the numbers inside especially if we get close to capacity.
