Well it was a frustrating match, and this is one where the stats tell all :
Our last 2 matches have yielded one goal from :
24 corners 34 shots 10 on target
While the opposition have produced two goals from this :
19 shots 10 on target 8 corners
Our conversion rate is simple appalling, with a decent goal to shot ratio we would be sitting well in the playoff places.
Olaofe to the rescue pleaseeeeee...

Sutton dominated this match for the first hour, winning a string of corners and hitting the bar through Donovan Wilson. Dean Bouzanis made one good save around the 40 minute mark, with his defenders scrambling the loose ball clear. Otherwise Exeter barely threatened. Then one of our attacks on the wing broke down, they countered through their inside right channel and a shot from Sam Nombe (who until that point had looked out of his depth) ended up in our net, possibly via Ben Goodliffe. A quarter of an hour later a slip by Louis John let them through again and the same player scored Exeter's second.
The lesson is pretty clear: when you're on top at this level then you need to turn pressure into at least one goal, otherwise you're asking to get punished against the run of play.

How we went in at halftime 0-0 heavenly only knows.
Thought it was a foul on Louis on the build up to their second goal.
I do have respect though for their manager on both pre and post match interviews

Whilst we didn’t get the result sounds like one of the best ever league performances in the history of the club. We’ve gone away to a regular promotion chaser in the EFL and could have been out of sight. Sometimes the ball doesn’t go in the net. If it happens regularly you have a problem in the forward areas but I’m sure we have the talent to notch enough. Congrats to the team and management for a fantastic performance and let’s hope next week is the same but with 3 points coming with it. Obviously we’ll lose games in the league this season but the great thing is we know from last season how mentally sound this group is, they’ll produce performances over and over and won’t let up.

I was at the Sutton Common Rovers v Jersey Bulls FC game on Saturday but got back home to track the Exeter game mainly via Twitter. Have just written a blog post just published on Medium called 'A tale of two Sutton's Rovers and United. The blog post features bulls, bells and the right the roam a football ground and video Jersey Bulls supporters set to the cliche theme music from Bergerac . Plus some thoughts on the Exeter v Sutton game. Take a look, here is a link to it shanepdillon.medium.com/a-tale-of-two-suttons-rovers-and-united-1536b1492653

As Challinor said last week we cannot keep our high tempo game going for 90 minutes and I am not expecting us to do so. Exeter hung on for an hour, changed personnel and dominated the last 20 minutes. Perhaps we should try and take a rest and be more defensive in the middle part of the game saving energy for the latter stages? Others will have stats to hand I am sure but we seem to run out of steam and concede late.

Just want to say Exeter's stewards were exemplary and so - for the most part - were their fans. The atmosphere they created was superb at times and the ones we spoke to were very friendly indeed, and very complimentary of our performance.
Maybe it's my imagination but I think at this level at least you can tell the difference between a football club that's owned by fans and one that's owned by an unconnected rich backer or two. It's clear which one Exeter is, anyway.

Absolutely agree on the Exeter people;10/10. Really pleasantly surprised with the whole day out (bar the last 15 mins of the game). Was expecting a rust bucket stadium but it was everything a League 1/2 ground should be: covered, good sight lines and places to meet for a pint of fine ale. And allotments by the station right next to the ground. Good luck ECFC for the rest of the season

Even the ones commenting on our official account's tweets have nothing but nice words to say about us. After the way Colchester fans reacted on social media to our game being called off that's like a breath of fresh air.

The match stats in today's Football League Paper are telling.
We had 14 corners to Exeter's 3. We had 17 shots off-target to their 9. But when it came to shots on target, they were ahead by 6 to 1.

The last one is wrong of course. Not sure what stats people watch the games. Their keeper made 2 on target saves in the first half, one from Ajiboye and one from a header and it’s also possible that he tipped Donovan’s shot onto the bar. Also the one cleared off the line in the second half the keeper also got a bit on it. These are the ones I can remember. Could be more of course

After watching the game live yesterday all i can really say is that it will be good to have Omar & Tanto back !
Nice ground with nice stewards. A lovely touch was giving out a voucher for a free cuppa at the ground.
