Speaking of smartarses, I bet nobody else can name the badminton player at 3:13 in the Grandstand clips. I didn’t bother watching badminton much, but I did when she was on! Anyway, we digress. We really should get back on topic. Gillian Gilks? A decent enough guess Billy, but you’d probably need to be a real badminton enthusiast to know that it was Lene Køppen of Denmark, a multiple champion at both European and World level.

I know nobody loves a s****a*** but I think you will find the wonderful David Coleman was before Frank Bough. With Peter O'Sullevan on horse racing, Eddie Waring on Rugby League and Bill McLaren on Rugby Union. We really should get back on topic. It's true we've gone off topic, but not as much as Walsall's thread. One poster has commentated: Has this thread gone off topic a bit? We’ve had parakeets, Sandwell Valley, creme eggs, Mars bars, Jimi Hendrix, orange chips and cunnilingus, and there’s still five days to go till kick off.

Such iconic music. Used to love David Coleman and Dickie Davies. Didn’t Tony Gubba once play at GGL in a celebrity XI?

Apparently there is a small chip shop in Walsall that produces yellow chips. how of why is not explained.

Orange chips are a Black Country delicacy, apparently. How they are orange is supposedly shrouded in mystery, but according to the online recipes I've read it's simply a case of adding paprika and orange food colouring to the batter.

I wondered if paprika might be involved. ANYWAY, if you come and find me at the match today you might be able to sample some of my homemade crisps, which are made of chickpeas and sweet potatoes and are flavoured with smoked paprika, and funnily enough yes they are orange too! I will also have ample supplies of other tasty treats including extra squidgy double chocolate brownies which I am told are quite nice. I can't eat them all myself so please do come over and help yourself! I'd appreciate a donation to my charity of the week in return donorbox.org/support-stonewall

I just saw a coachload of their supporters coming into Belmont Village. They've gone for pre-match drinks at the Conservative Club.

Firstly I don't believe that there can be too many Walsall supporters who admit to being Conservative in their voting intentions, and secondly I'm delighted there is an other Amber Planet poster at this end of the borough!

Most frustrating. Walsall created little, but we’re disciplined in defence. Our superior possession was not turned into clear-cut chances - a post and bar were hit, but little else suggested that we would score. Time and again, forward balls were played to advanced players who had to stop, gather possession, then play the ball back. We had few runners and little option. Hoofball to Omar just doesn’t play dividends, nor does David A running past three players across the pitch to then lose the ball. We need to be smarter in the final third, and play more balls into space that team mates are running into. Static up front just doesn’t work.

3 defeats in 4 league games.
We could have played all night and not scored. They never looked like scoring either until we give them a free kick on the edge of the box with Deano nowhere near the resultant shot.
If Tanto is fit enough to play 90 mins then put him out on the left and bring Wilson on. It was effective last season. We do need another fit CM urgently.

Agree Tanto doesn't look ready for 90mins.
Walsall did their job perfectly, draw our sting in the first half stayed in the game and lurked around for a set piece to nick all 3 points away from home. We didn't take our chances, didn't look sharp in front of goal at all today.
This is a tough league, no mugs and days when you are not quite on it cost you.
The main thing is we are in every game, and EFL2 is our level without doubt.

We all see things differently but on another day we win by 2 or 3 and everyone is happy. I was surprised that Walsall offered so little going forward, expected them to be a real threat. They offered less than anyone this season by quite some distance in an attacking sense but were reasonably solid. Maybe that’s credit to our defensive organisation and work rate.
I have fully supported Dean and he’s a good goalkeeper but he got the wall set up so badly wrong today. They only had a right footer on it and he can’t bend it round the side and score at the near post. And that decided the game. Looked another soft free kick (especially given what the ref let go generally) award too (like versus Swindon) and sides punish at this level.
We’re still in great shape, small break from league action now, hope we can get back to winning ways in the cups.
