I was interviewed yesterday by the guys who do the Leyton Orient fans' podcast. My slot is basically a ten-minute preview of tomorrow's match. It's about 1 hour 10 minutes in (easy to find by fast-forwarding through). lodown.buzzsprout.com/1055641/9576612-episode-51-the-marshall-taylor-interviewMy recommended pub is not actually a pub at all but (as mentioned in the pod) the legendary Leyton Orient Supporters' Club Bar. It's part of the stadium, but accessible only from outside (entrance on Oliver Road, opposite side from the away fans' section). £1 to get in, a terrific choice of beers, and a great place to chat to home fans before or after the game. Thanks for LO Supporter's Club recommendation. Nice atmosphere and old skool clubhouse feel

Fair result, unfair scoreline. Over the 90mins we were the poorer side. No complaints about their 3 and 4th goals, but I think especially on the first goal that was poor defending by us. First half an hour we were great, but faded pretty quickly against a strong Leyton Orient side.
At least we managed to do what many teams have failed to and score at Brisbane Road.

A loss today is not a disaster but let’s mix it up a bit on Tuesday. Simpson and Bugiel through the middle and Tanto on the left. Wilson?

Didn't we sign him from Springfield AFC?

Tough game to analyse. When we lost by the same scoreline at Brisbane Road four seasons ago, Orient were newly energised by the appointment of the late Justin Edinburgh as their manager. They now have another experienced manager in Kenny Jackett, who perhaps realised that matching up to us physically was the way to win the contest.
We took the game to them in the first half-hour and another fine piece of hustling from Tanto, followed by an excellent finish, gave us a deserved lead. It was disappointing to concede an equaliser from a long throw, and then to go behind early in the second half. That did look like a gift from Deano, though there was a suggestion of an unpunished foul on him. Our equaliser wouldn't come, and not dealing with set piece threats cost us two more goals late on.
There's much there for Matt to ponder, but the team have the chance to bounce back at home to Mansfield on Tuesday. They're on a decent run of form at the moment, so this will be another test.
EDIT: footage of the goals shows a push on Louis, not Deano, in the build-up to their second. Their third was a great hit.

After listening to and reading previous threads on yesterday's game. I must say it was not one of our best. Yes for the first 30 minutes we were good. The score could have been a lot worse L O hitting the woodwork two or three times? Can anyone tell me what Bennett and Milson were on about when Bennett was substituted? Yes Bennett should have been substituted as he had a bad game.I agree with Amberaleman Matt has a lot to ponder on.One or two team positions may have to be looked at.Hopefully Tuesday we can bounce back .

Well done Del! As is so often the case, you are spot on. To be honest Andy i remember someone mentioning this a few seasons ago when we played Orient in the National league so i had a heads up !

Sadly just a bad day at the races .Didn't lose position in the league much as level on points with the 7th placed team. Hopefully we will overcome Mansfield.

Following the first 20 minutes or so of yesterday's match, I am not sure anybody would have predicted the final outcome. U's on top, a fine run and strike by Tanto and some other nervous moments in the home defence. Then came sprinklergate. A break in play while someone went and dragged a sleeping groundsman from his hidey hole and the momentum swung.
O's targeted our left flank knocking high balls to one of their tall guys in the hope of winning throws that were then propelled into the box. From one such throw they equalised. Let's face it, Smith, is going to win a lot of aerial duels and he won this one and they scored. A long ball caused problems for the returning Louis J but their fella missed the target when he really should have scored. Richie B was very unlucky when his shot hit the inside of a post and bounced clear.
But the equaliser had seen that momentum swing and early in the second half came the goal that was both controversial and probabaly decisive. Dean B comes for a cross, Louis is shoved in the back so when Dean collects, Louis is right under him and Dean can't hold on as he comes down over his team mate. Open goal for Smith. Should have been a free-kick to U's. Poor refereeing but then we got very little from him yesterday....again.
After that, they hit the crossbar, Tanto has a great chance to level but places the ball into the 'keeper's hands and then with the game in the balance on score line if nothing else the home side rally late and Smith caps a deserved MotM award with a superb volley. The fourth was dreadful from a defensive point of view but of no consequence to the the result.
I said last week that this was probably U's stiffest test so far and so it proved. O's aren't the best side that Sutton have come up against but they play to their strengths and for once, U's were found wanting at some crucial moments. Typical Kenny Jacket side. Huge guy up front, at Pompey he had former Dagger, Ollie Hawkins, add in a long throw and decent set piece delivery and the opponents have problems.
That first 20 minutes was very good from Sutton and their defence looked open to pace but U's didn't see enough quality ball thereafter and while 4-1 was rather flattering there can be no argument the best side on the day rightly took the spoils.
Annoying. I can't stand their fans in the ground. Individually, I have chatted with a few very decent ones but as a collective, just wow. Last time out was Tommy Wright and the haranging he received as he slowly went off with Carl Brook bowing and scraping to the home fans. Of course, TW had just damaged his ACL and was out for the best part of a year. Dr Brook and his 4,000 student quacks with a poor diagnosis. Yesterday, it was Joe K. That tackle on him looked awful. Not malicious as both were going for the ball but JK got there first and he was caught late and badly. The O fans moaned like billyo when the yellow was shown. Seen reds given for tackles like that. JK limped away and probably out of Tuesday's match. Let's hope the poor diagnosis of last time isn't repeated.
Another poor display by the ref. The second goal which I thought was a foul at the time, his willingness to pull the match back for them and award a f-k but not U's (David A in the second half) and he couldn't get the card out quick enough to caution Craig E. Yep, we got f-all out of the guy yesterday and that second goal may or may not have been decisive but it really was a very poor decision.
Onto an in form Mansfield. Let's hope for a Sutton bounce back.
