Just been on 606 phone in nominating Matt Gray as manager of the calendar year 2021 . Listen back on BBC sounds about 6.40 pm after the sports news as Robbie and Chris Sutton’s nominations which were Thomas Tuchel and David Moyes.

Good shout Neil👍🏻

I don't think we should shout too much about his achievements. We don't want him to go elsewhere.

Imagine he’ll get a job with a bigger club at some point and we should be planning for that. When it happens is dictated by circumstance. Hope we can keep him as long as possible! And yes well in the frame for manager of the calendar year in English football. Well done Neil getting on, enjoyed listening to that.

Luckily Matt gets to decide whether he wants to leave his job or not and he's been pretty clear in saying he doesn't! If I were him I'd want to get a few seasons' worth of experience under my belt before even thinking about taking a higher level job. Without that experience you're setting yourself up to fail. Matt is no fool.

Matt is no fool. Actively wanting to leave a job is completely different to receiving better offers. Obviously it’s Matt’s choice, that goes without saying. However usually if another employer starts offering double or triple your salary (or whatever) it tends to lead to a move. Money is one part of a decision but it is usually a big part for most people. All hypothetical but if you get Sutton high in league 2 it pretty much guarantees that you’re going to, at the very least, be on bigger clubs’ radar. Until anything happens we can continue to enjoy his leadership and it’s not worth worrying about. It’s just life!

That's what I meant - it doesn't matter how much you're offered if you're not ready to go and Matt has a wise head on his shoulders.
