Shocking game. Why was their goal disallowed? Handball Billy. Those watching on iFollow said it was fairly obvious

I quite agree with previous posts. One of the worst games seen. I may be lynched here but 2 words come to mind.boring and predictable. What system was used was it 442 or 451. When B W came on it seem to get more momentum into the game and why leave R B only less then ten minutes on the pitch. On to Saturday and F G R after the last 2 games I cannot see us getting a result. 2 points from 2 home games is not to be sniffed at.

I actually didn't think the game was that bad especially in the first half. I've seen worse this season.
I thought Salford were ordinary apart from the hard working Asante-Thomas and on that showing shouldn't be anywhere near the playoffs.

I hope some players were being rested for Saturday. Matt in his interview was chippy about it being an excellent point against a good side. Well Salford seemed to have got what they came for - they did not risk send men forward and leaving gaps at the back.
"Is this a Library?" sang the 58 from Salford. Good question, and with our new, improved, floodlights some of the 2000 Sutton supporters must have wished they had brought a book. Perhaps many did - they were so quiet. Some 0-0 can be exiting, this wasn't. A no score bore draw.
The midfield holding and distribution role performed this season well by Smith and adequately by Davis was conspicuously absent. Long balls up to Omar were OK he won and used half of them, but his partner for the evening Wilson showed he is no target man. He can't challenge for a ball in the air and was picked off when he chested it down. He is poacher who is best behind a front two. When in the second half the ball was punted from keeper to keeper 3 times in a row it summed the entertainment value of this game. Roll on Saturday.

I thought it was a poor game overall, but in a weird way it wasn't a lack of effort on our part. It just appeared to me that collectively we just seemed to have had a cloudy brain. Not fantastic decision making across the entire side. I think for me that I couldn't really identify an outstanding player (or by the same token a really poor player) just gave the entire impression that the game was pretty flat. Neither side looked like scoring, but unlike other draws we've had it just wasn't very exciting from either side. Very similar to the game at their place in August.
Still unbeaten in over 2 months though.

I'm not sure it was as poor a game as some are suggesting. I brought along a Chelsea-fan friend, her first time at Sutton. She knows her football and she enjoyed the match and considered it properly competitive. Her only caveat was it was 'a shame the goals didn't come'. But she enjoyed the atmosphere at out place and will definitely be coming again.
We do miss Ali Smith in midfield when he's not available but perhaps we show a little better, to a casual observer, that we realise. Even when we're not at our best and it's not a sparkling game. Our standards have become high, quite quickly.

Tough result as feel we slightly edged it from a chances created perspective. Lots of long balls and head tennis which didn't seem to stick and our best moments came when we played with the ball rather than hoof it up the pitch which with a bit more composure at certain points, could have created more, especially given the wind in the second half. Was right beside the Asante disallowed goal and it was definitely a handball, his hands looked like they were charging down Deano and feel unlucky Louis didn't get a pen for a definite push at the back post but a draw not to be sniffed at

When I posted last night I was going to add that it was not an enjoyable watch, but decided not to. Subsequent posts from others on the forum have backed up my initial thoughts. Why was that? Well, it all stemmed from our ‘attacking’ play. Too many long balls to Wilson, who as others have rightly pointed out, is no target man. When Omar was found, his knock downs/flick ons were largely lost, again with Wilson being muscled out of gaining possession. Apart from David A’s mazy runs (which can be excused from often ending up with him being ganged up on by three defenders) our build up play - if along the ground rather than hoofed up - was stuttery and lacked fluidity. We were easily read. This could well be due to our makeshift midfield, already missing Harry B and Smith. There is, by the way, no criticism here, as the squad have performed remarkably well this season - unbeaten so far in 2022. To have an off night is understandable. It just goes to show how far our (my) expectations have grown…

I quite enjoyed the game if not the result. Not sure we have played the strongest forward line in the last two matches but i guess with the number of games we are playing its more of a squad game.

Not the greatest of matches but I have seen far, far worse over the yeras at GGL. Whether it was our "hard" pitch, the stiff breeze or the fact Salford have Matt Smith up front now, they didn't play anything like they did in the match up there. They were full of passing and great movement and n one of the better sides U's have played. Last night, much of that had disappeared and it was two sides with a similar approach cancelling each other out. So after failing to draw any of the first dozen that's three consecutive home draws. Another clean sheet too.
U's had the better chances and probably should have taken at least one of them but it wasn't to be. U's had the energy, defended well except for that one time and with a bit more composure would have got the goal that would have won the match.
Another decent sized crowd but very quiet last night except for the moaning, of course. Some of our fans seem to forget how far we have come, not just this season but over the last three seasons. Give it a rest, what is there to moan about?
Ref had a decent game last night, although allowing Thomas-Asante to cover Dean B when he was looking to clear was wrong. A player is not permitted to move with the 'keeper. The handball spot was good; certainly clear from my angle and deliberate or by accident, the current laws of the game state the goal has to be disallowed. Bowyer was apoplectic but not sure he would have had the best angle on it. Either that or he hasn't kept up with law changes.
Onto the toughest test of them all Saturday, the unstoppable force that is FGR. They are unbeaten away in the league so far, wouldn't it be nice to change that stat? I would take a point though and hope Easty is ok.

I managed to get a blog post out of the Salford game, cheekily titled 'I'm so bored with the SUFC'. The game had its moment, I have seen much worse, I dare mention Ireland games under Charlton and how Salford for a moment rekindled memories of Man Utd in the blog post. It is a short one, here is a link shanepdillon.medium.com/im-so-bored-with-the-sufc-150e44fd8e27

Just seen the highlights and it looks like the trees and bank have gone from the new terrace being built because you can see through to the car park. Should improve the ground no end.⚽️⚽️

Interesting observation I picked up from recent Sutton podcast was that Salford haven't won for a long time after going behind. I'm glad I missed this....otherwise would have spent far to long talking about my debut as a source citation!

I felt we missed Ali Smith both Saturday and last night. Hopefully Easty won't be out for long. What's up with Davis did well on Saturday but missing last night...
Hopefully we can get one or 2 of the central kids back as whilst Barden and Millom did OK it doesn't exactly strike me with too much confidence going into a game with the league leaders.
