I have just found an old Sunday copy of the results for Saturday May 6th 2006, I kept it mainly as Orient had just got promoted from League 2 to League 1 after having beaten Oxford United 3-2 at Oxford condemning them to Nationwide Conference along with Rushden and Diamonds. But the main reason for this thread is that Carlisle were champions of League 2 with 86 points and Northampton were 2nd with 83 points whilst Orient were 3rd with 81. Grimsby were 4th in the playoffs. In League 1 Southend were promoted champions along with Colchester and Hartlepool, MK Dons, Swindon and Walsall were relegated. How times change! Also on 7th May Arsenal were playing their last home game at Highbury against Wigan.

Times certainly do change. Chelsea were on their way to a successive Premier League title under a certain manager who was meant to be special, and let's face it, in that period he was, plus a League Cup win.
Where were Sutton back then though? I'm guessing National South.
Oh, and my son was born! Probably the most important thing to happen that year in my reply!

Where were Sutton back then though? I'm guessing National South. Sutton had just finished 13th in Conference South (having been founder members of that division two years earlier), and had appointed Ian Hazel as manager following the resignation of John Rains.

In that season I believe we lost the last game away at Hayes, thus condeming Carshalton Athletic to relegation to the Isthmian League, and they've not been back since. Trivia time : There's one league opponent from that season who are in our league this season. Can you name them and what the scores of the the games were?

Newport County, and we drew 1-1 at home and lost 1-0 away
