Isn’t it amazing that a Sutton goal scorer doesn’t appear in the top 20 BBC league 2 table ad yet look where we are 😳. Doesn’t that say something about our wonderful team. (with apologies to anyone who might think it should be league 4 or Hadrian Paint conference league etc.,)

(with apologies to anyone who might think it should be league 4 or Hadrian Paint conference league etc.,) It's not hugely uncommon - both in our title winning seasons of 2016 and 2021 we only had 1 player in the top ten (Fitchett with 20 in 2016 in 5th place and Tanto last season in joint 8th with 14). Commonly we score from all over the place. I think more amazing is that only 3 regulars have failed to score in the league so far this season (Wyatt, Barden and perhaps surprisingly Eastmond), and 16 players have scored for us. According to Soccerway, the assists look interesting too - with our top 2 players, chipping in with 5 assists each are Rob Milsom and Ritchie Bennett.

I can't help thinking that had Tanto not missed around four months of the season he'd be featuring high up in the table of goalscorers.

I think it's a sign of good management and teamwork. Relying on one or two regular goalscorers isn't great when those are often the players most vulnerable to injury. Picking a team and tactics that allow players to pick up chances from different areas of the pitch makes your team more versatile and therefore more dangerous in attack against different opponents, IMO

Don't disagree with any of this - but a feature of our most recent 'promotion seasons' is that goals from our strikers were a significant factor in helping to 'get us over the line'. When we won promotion from the Ryman's League, Dos brought in Leroy Griffiths to score the goals needed to get us over the line - and Leroy delivered. As already stated above, Dan Fitchett's goals were key in helping us to win the National League South in 2016 and similarly Tanto's goals in helping us to win the National League last season (and not forgetting Donovan's brilliant goals contribution when he was brought in for the run in). I don't think that we're alone in League 2 this season in having our defenders making significant contributions in terms of goal-scoring from set-pieces. I think that I heard somewhere that Northampton's centre backs were amongst their top goal scorers this season.

You're right about our Ryman campaign but remember we were sort of punching above our weight with strikers because Dos brought in players who would normally have been playing at a level above where we were at the time. But there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to football tactics, of course!

We have all the ingredients needed to gain promotion except a fully firing striker, if we had of had Tanto fit, his missing goals would have put us on the coat tails of FG right now.
That is not to say the rest of the team have not done brilliantly and all chipped in with goals as well as doing their jobs.
