Just a little announcement from me - I have been appointed Her Game Too Ambassador for Sutton United
What does this mean? Well, if you aren't aware of Her Game Too (https://www.hergametoo.co.uk/) it's a brilliant campaign that kicked off last year to fight the sexism that STILL persists within football, despite things having improved over time. We've seen it discussed on here very recently; a few weeks ago at Swindon a bloke told the male friend I was with "don't bring a bird to football" and just last night Kenny Shiels was heard to mutter that women footballers are "more emotional" than their male counterparts and that means they are more likely to concede goals at certain points in the game...
We don't need any of this outdated tosh making women feel less welcome, comfortable or safe at football and in particular at our lovely club which generally does a great job of making everyone feel welcome. I intend to help ensure this continues as we welcome new people to our fanbase who may not be quite as familiar with the ethos of the club as most of us are on here. I have had a few women recently tell me sexism has put them off attending matches regularly and I aim to be a big part of a movement that changes this forever.
The ambassadors' role includes taking the lead on any partnership between the club and the Her Game Too campaign, representing the campaign and its message, and being a point of contact for anyone who wants to ask about the movement or raise any concerns about things they may have witnessed or experienced at matches. I now have some really good contacts both at Her Game Too and at the club, all of whom take this very seriously, and I want everyone to know I will now be someone you can always come and talk to no matter how trivial something seems - even if it seems too small to report, if something feels a bit sexist or unfair on someone because she happens to be a woman at football, please come and have a chat with me or contact me via social media (details on HGT website) and I will do everything I can to amplify your message and ensure something actually gets done about it. Our club is similarly determined to ensure things actually get done and I am very confident we will be able to work together well.
