Both Ben and Adam were nursing slight injuries (groin and knee respectively) and so not risked today. Thank you for the helpful update.

Bit different now though when they’re plucking players from 2 divisions higher. Would be very surprised if they aren’t champions this season. In our league, Bradford are going to be very strong if their late season performance at ours is anything to go by. Sparky isn't there just to pick up a paycheck and it was very obvious his experience was paying off. Im frightened to think what they might be like after a preseason and squad strengthening. One thing's for sure, it will be a much tougher league this year.

Have to say that from watching the highlights the no 7 trialist looked promising for the second match running and put in a superb cross from the right with his left foot to set up Kwame. For all our height advantage over many teams last season I don’t think we scored as many headed goals as we should have. If he continues to shine then he looks like a potential signing - but he is very diminutive or is that because every around him is so tall?

As you say, has potential.

If Matt is looking for a right winger, he should take a look at Arsenal and England Lionesses winger Beth Mead. Unbelievable first half for England against Norway.

Yes but she did get the freedom of Brighton in that first half and was a lot less effective in the second when someone actually defended against her!

All gone quiet on the signings front so posting this purely to keep the thread on the front page.

Well Matt’s still running the rule over a number of trialists who have contributed well in the 3 friendlies so far I’ve heard.
One player who I thought we might have been in for.. Josh Umerah (Wealdstone’s top scorer last season) has just signed for Hartlepool frustratingly.

I'm not convinced that the door is necessarily closed on Tanto being back at Sutton on loan next season. Garry Rowett, Millwall's manager, has consistently stated that if his young players have not done enough during the preseason matches to convince him that they will have significant game time for Millwall this season, then he would prefer to send them out on loan (again). Looking at Millwall's squad and the signings that they have made so far this Summer (including a couple of forwards), I'm not convinced that Tanto will necessarily be seen as ready to be a regular starter next season for a Championship club with genuine play-off aspirations. However, if that's the case, Millwall might be looking for Tanto to make another step up and go out on loan to a League One club next season - and from what I understand, there are a number of clubs in that league (including Wycombe I believe) who would like to take him on loan. Of course, when Millwall loaned Tanto to St Johnstone, it didn't work out well with Tanto gaining very little match time - so he was loaned back to Sutton. Millwall know that if Tanto comes back to us and remains fit, the likelihood is that he will get the game time that Millwall/Rowett want him to have: newsatden.co.uk/85484-gary-rowett-on-loan-moves-for-millwall-youngsters/

It’s just dawned on me that our season opener against Newport is a fortnight away. I’m contemplating how ready our squad will be for then as we surely still need more signings - those that have been to the friendlies do Gambin (winger), Ridley (centre-half) and the striker who scored at Dulwich look like possible additions to the squad?

Well we’ve already got a side that isn’t a million miles away from our starting XI from last season. Only Bouzanis, Ajiboye and possibly Olaofe drop off from our best team. Only the keeper and Ben Goodliffe specifically playing a bit of catch up in terms of minutes. Anything we add that is better is a bonus, at the very least we’ll be adding some depth from here.

Gareth is correct - there were rumours that Gillingham were looking to get another striker in - and Tanto was one of the options they were apparently looking at. However, they have now brought in their former striker Mikael Mandron.

Spot on. We already have a starting XI that would be totally acceptable in last season (taking into account the players that have left and have already signed). We don't have any position that we're struggling to fill already and enough subs.
