I’d say let’s take the positives. We’ve gone away to what has been a League One side and everyone is gutted we haven’t got the win we should have. If we remember where we have come from and keep a touch of realism (that survival this season is the most important thing) then it bodes well. More often than not we’d put away enough chances to win the game. And the next time we play like that (from what I hear - not at the game) we’ll win. Yes we probably need to be a touch more clinical to carry on improving but remember we were 1 point from the first 4 games last season. I say all the above but am still a little disappointed as these 2 fixtures were good chances to get a flyer and I think the first 2 months look really tough on paper. IS4 - if Omar is injured he plays Thomas - simple. Same as with Bennett last season. From what i have seen so far Thomas is a National League player at best but i look forward to being wrong with that observation. Totally agree, didn't think he was much cop when we had him on loan before first couple of matches hasn't changed my opinion. Still not convinced by Rose either made a good stop at beginning of 2nd half but I'd say he should have had better positioning/decision making for both of their goals. That said we played and bettered a team that played league 1 last year and their keeper made 2 v good stops and kept them in the game in the first half shown by the fact he was motm. I think we'll be OK this season but think we need another striker and possibly a loan keeper as I'm still not convinced that Rose was signed as first choice although hope I'm proven wrong.

Thanks Gareth. Of course. We will have to wait and see how bad the injuries are.

As is said below, we'll be ok this season, with our home form holding up to collect valuable points but with some stressful and challenging games away. Let's see how the adventure pans out. Onwards. Yesterday's match was really one to which the following hoary old cliche applies: always play to the final whistle.
In the same way that early results last season went against us on account of equalisers/winning goals in the dying minutes of matches, late late goals in the 92nd and 94th minute came to bite us after 90 minutes of hard fought endeavour during which Rovers barely laid a glove on us.
In classic Rocky Balboa fashion, The Reds took a pummelling in the opening nine rounds, only for the more experienced prize fighter to outfox us with two sucker punches in quick succession in the tenth.
Rose could do little more than punch the ball out of a crowded penalty box in the chain of events leading to the home side's first goal, but the ensuing shot could arguably have been saved. Perhaps that is a rather uncharitable assessment given the close proximity of the shot, but for the 2nd, Rose looked all at sea. Rather than trust the defenders in front of him, who barely put a foot wrong all game, Rowe in particular deputising solidly in Goodliffe's absence, Rose came off his line leaving himself dangerously exposed. His positioning was all over the place. In his defence, I saw nothing untoward with his kicking and distribution, which was a decent standard overall.
If we work on closing out injury time, then we'll be fine. Sharper finishing upfront and we would have been out of sight by half-time.
At this embryonic stage of the season, I'm disappointed but not concerned. Man of the match for me was probably Milsom, he was sharp throughout and always gave us an effective outlet.
A few closing words about Doncaster's fans. They were a class act. Whilst subdued for most of the game until those final goals, as if still reeling from the hangover of last season's relegation, they were super friendly before and especially after the game, gracious in defeat. A couple of them even apologised to me for winning(!), and one massive chap thoughtfully checked that my wife and I knew how to get back to the station. More than happy to return to the Ecopower again, notwithstanding the result.

Given that the general opinion appears to be that we need a striker (poacher) to put away more of the chances we create and we need to be better at game management in the last 5 minutes or so, perhaps we could try and sign Chloe Kelly from Man City - she showed last Sunday that she can do both.

Am I the only one who really dislikes teams "going for the corner" at the end of games?
To me football is about open play and scoring goals. 2-1 up with minutes to play? Go for another goal. That will kill the game far better than wasting time in the corner. You can get caught out, it creates frustration for both players and supporters and causes senseless fouls and bookings. Is seeing a game out with either cynical time wasting or going for the corner really a skill we should be aiming to be better at? I've seen teams winning a game by a single goal make a break with opposition defenders committed forward, supporters seeing the possible options on and make straight for the corner! Is that how it should be?
P.S - I had no problem with Tanto pushing for goal in the dying minutes at Wembley, 3-1 and the amount of time remaining is almost irrelevant. It will be pointed out of course, that had he done so we might have won but he tried to score again and I can't criticise him for that.
(None of the above makes yesterday any less disappointing. Looking forward to when our turn comes, I'm certain we must be owed a few of these!)

Was this down to fitness or concentration?

There are other ways of closing out the game - playing small passing triangles and keeping possession without going anywhere but we don’t have the skill on the ball to do that consistently amongst the team.
We lost at Doncaster because we continued to play a high line which is risky - no way would they have scored their second if we had sat deeper and put everyone back . Rose was badly at fault - there was no reason for him to be so far out virtually in the corner of the box - deeper and more central he would have been better placed to save.

Very strange to suggest recruiting female players (not the first time you’ve done so on here either) - to my knowledge there aren’t mixed teams in this country and such players wouldn’t have anywhere near the attributes to compete in League Two. Odd

Not the first time a forum comment plainly made in jest has been taken at face value either.

I am disappointed that we only have 1 point in the bag as we have looked better than that.
I think the main issue with the first goal was leaving a player with 2 meters of space on the near post. The keeper did well to get a hand to it but I guess it was disappointing he did not make the save when he did but it would have been a cracking save if he did.
The second goal? We let the attacker get goal side at the box so the keeper did have a decision to make there, while another player was left unmarked in the Centre, So I would say poor defending was to blame and maybe a lack of leadership experience and a bit of naivety on the keepers part. I recall Deano making similar errors last season.
I remain content with him, two games in and while we have conceded three I would not put them down to keeper errors.

Just out of interest...does anyone know why we were not playing in our green (or black) kit last weekend? I understood that a change of kit was standard for away fixtures (unless we need to play in yellow because of a clash of colours).
Personally I prefer it when we play in yellow (its our spiritual identity) but I thought that the club would wish to see the team in its 2nd colours away from home wherever possible, particularly if it helps with replica shirt sales.

The Home Club has priority after which the Away Club can choose which of its 2, or 3, kits to wear - although normally this wouldn't be its home kit. The kit choices need to be approved by both the match officials and also the EFL. This year the EFL have adopted a much stronger directive on "hidden disabilities". One of these is colour blindness and as a result many combinations are considered problematic. In particular Green and Black have issues when combined with Red, Blue or Black. Amber has fewer problems. We have already been requested to wear Amber away, and no doubt that will continue.
