At the moment, I feel sorry for Matt. He has performed miracles getting this club/team into the EFL - and achieving what they achieved last season. He has lost some quality players during the Summer - and most of the plyers he has brought in seem likely to be squad players or loaned out to other clubs rather than featuring prominently in our 1st XI. That is hardly surprising given that, unlike most or all of our rivals, we are having to spend most of our money on bringing our ground up to EFL requirements - leaving us apparently with next to nothing to compete in the transfer market for quality players. It seems we are caught between a rock and a hard place. If our ground isn't up to standard, we will be thrown out the league, if we don' have sufficient quality in our team, we increase the risk of finishing in the bottom two. Matt has made it clear that he is looking to bring in another striker before the transfer window closes. I'm presuming (rigthly or wrongly) that this will be a loan signing from a higher status club. I think that this may need to be one of the best signings that Matt ever makes.

Should never have gone down the A5 on the way back. Diversion after diversion!!! Hideous wasn't it? Roadworks after roadworks, and at least 3 times we couldn't get on the M1. Eventually managed to join the M25 on the other side of Hemel, and then insult to injury, you couldn't get off at the A3 to head back in a Sutton direction. Rejoined around the St Albans area but oddly enough the A3 exit was still open even though the signs said it wasn't. Think they were in the middle of coning though so you were unlucky not to have got through.

Saw Omari Patrick (Carlisle United) last night at Shrewsbury. Not as dangerous as when we played at Carlisle last season but he has pace and looks a good player for this level. He was taken off after 60 minutes. Wonder if he would like to live in the South London area?

We are a ‘small’ club, albeit with an envious CV, trying to compete, week-on-week, with clubs that have bigger budgets, bigger grounds and bigger fan-bases. We cannot compete off the field with them, but that we do compete on it is a great testament to the players and staff. However, how long we can keep on competing is a major worry and a very difficult challenge to keep on top of.

Again Matt reiterated the fact that the pitch was a big pitch - which it certainly looked from our vantage point in the corner. It looks much wider than ours . However the published statistics for both MK Stadium and GGL is 105mx68m which is rounded up 115 x 74 yrds in old money. Can someone who actually knows give the precise measurement for us.

Any known decent player in league football will have numerous clubs interested and we will be very lucky to land them. Patrick is strongly rumoured to have turned down a move to Tranmere already. The chances of him coming to Sutton are slim to near impossible. Our best bet imo would be a loan player from a higher club but they can be hit or miss.

Let's look at the positives. Milsom had a superb game (as did Omar before he came off). Virtually all of the substitutions impressed more than the players they replaced, especially Barden and Kouassi and we don't have to play in a ground that smells like a farm!

Omar for me has been our best player so far, never stops working. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

Must agree with Banjo. OMAR Haa been the best so far. If not getting that dead leg, WILL was on a par with OMAR.

[quote author=" Andy K" Eventually managed to join the M25 on the other side of Hemel, and then insult to injury, you couldn't get off at the A3 to head back in a Sutton direction.[/quote] That explains why the Supporters Club coach driver took us for a scenic trip through Weybridge. Sounds as though it was a good move.

Nothing wrong with your post, but we are where we are and we want to stay an EFL club. 2nd season is traditionally probably the most difficult after the inertia from promotion. With that said we have to score goals, and so far we have struggled in font of goal, I don't think we tested the keeper from inside the 18 yard box last night despite having at least 2 guilt edged chances. I am sure that Matt will do the business.

And an away tie against Watford in the next round would have been nice.
