Yes, although Josh is playing (mainly) in David's old position on the right wing, he's clearly not a like-for-like replacement. One difference is that David was often reluctant to release the ball, using his pace and control to try to dribble past two or more opponents. Sometimes he did this successfully, then unleashing a shot or cross. But on many other occasions he lost possession. Josh, on the other hand, tends to release the ball, either passing to a nearby team-mate, getting in an early cross, or - occasionally - knocking the ball past an opponent and using his pace to to chase after it. Overall, Josh is probably the less predictable player. David would lean into a player thereby getting a better chance of a foul being given.

Hope everyone’s well 🎈⚽️ Quick update on David Ajiboye. I was working @portsmouth v Peterborough yesterday and I felt for David. We are into the swing of the season and he did not even make the match day squad. Ephron Mason Clark was on the bench and came on. David had to endure those horrible shuttle runs post match when I look at footballers and think is this what you envisaged when you played at school at lunchtime and scored the winning goal just as the bell sounded for end of playtime. I said hello to DA post shuttle runs and I hope he fights his way back into the match day squad. He has a tough road ahead @peterborough. Hi Sol, I always look to see if David is getting any game time and although it’s early days for him, I’m sure he needs games to improve, training can only do so much. He will be on better wages but I hope he doesn’t regret his move. I see Isaac has been given a contract at Millwall and is making some appearances from the bench. I guess David might end up going out on loan, but good luck to him, he has a bright future, but needs a lot of patience.

Once again our starting front two are unable to find the net and never looked likely to. I been saying that for weeks, Wilson's first touch lets him down, Thomas does not look like a striker at this level on what I have seen so far. Not sure why we needed a 3rd keeper, not a lot wrong with Rose IMO?

Meanwhile, Matt Gray, who won the National League title, guided the club to 8th in L2 in its first season in the EFL and a first Wembley final in 41 years remains the club's manager and thus calls the shots over recruitment and team selection.
And thank f*** he does and not some of those responsible for the amateur hour comments posted on here.

And thank f*** he does and not some of those responsible for the amateur hour comments posted on here. Literally this. We've just won 3 on the spin, not lost in 4 and in those 4 we've conceded 1 goal from open play. And we're still talking about 2 players who have gone and making judgements on others this early in the season. Whilst I don't want to stifle any "debate" I just cannot understand that negative mentally whilst we are arguably doing better than this point last season with clearly the smallest budget in the league and having a manager who quite frankly has delivered miracles to our small club in such a short period of time. It's like there are still supporters who clearly don't trust his judgement even though its blindingly obvious there is literally no reason not to. Sure, have your say, but there is always the caveat that there isn't one person on this forum who knows more about management, recruitment, tactics, judging players ability and football in general than our management team as a whole and Matt specifically.

No i think Matt must be absolutely delighted by where we stand in the league. The problem is he has had to rely on two inexperienced young lads up front to snatch a win by the odd goal. Will this trend continue ,only time will tell. Our defence and midfield are solid and a run up towards the top part of the table is possible.
No one is questioning his judgement. He has to work with what is available to him at any particular time.

Is that a problem though?
Snatching a win is a win. I'd be happy for us to be snatching wins for the rest of the season, regardless on who gets them.
Goals coming from players all over the park got us to Wembley and nearly into the play offs. So far this season the pattern is exactly the same.
There will be games this season where both Wilson and Thomas will be a hero. The former nearly was at Doncaster if it wasn't for defensive errors.

OK Mail haters. You're going to love their report of yesterday's game. "Kylian Kouassi came off the bench to score Sutton's winner. Luke Armstrong also netted for the hosts, after Harry Beautyman scored for Harrogate." Surprised nobody else picked up on this.

Having worked hard to recruit so that he has competition for places it’s no surprise that we now have debate on starting positions as every club in the land does. Yes Matt can be trusted and knows best. But equally I think the performances of non starters bodes well and the fact we are talking alternatives is healthy. It’s exactly what Matt himself wanted.
We have a set formation and pattern of play. Matt will be overwhelming trusting and happy with the players that have done good jobs for him to date. But he will also always be looking to improve and isn’t afraid to make a decision to push someone ahead of the man in possession (see Harry/Ali).
On top of that we have 3 inexperienced, young forwards and Matt will choose his moments with them wisely and based on more information than we see. You could also argue that Donovan Wilson and Kwame Thomas also not THAT experienced, both having to fight for game time at league level. Of course Thomas also not that long in the club so needs to be afforded our time and support (and personal opinion is that applies until any player is no longer with the club).
Re. the goalkeeper clearly Rose is of sufficient quality and doing very well. Matt doesn’t want to leave us exposed to an injury for him and feels House needs a run of games before he can be that cover. I think that’s fairly straightforward and understandable. I don’t think you can take any chances with that position, again can be the all important difference in the tight games we will be involved in.
I genuinely think we could be up there again this season and of course we should remain positive. I think the general feel is much the same. I would add that if we were to find 1 or 2 regularly hitting the net it could propel us into automatic promotion equation. Yes, we have spread goals around to date and that is fine, but 1 or 2 pushing into the 10-15 bracket makes life a lot easier and can be the diffference in tight games (of which there are many).

An appreciation of Sutton and Matt Gray's coaching from Ali Maxwell ( Not the Top 20 Podcast , Quest last season , and occasional contributor to Saturday Radio 5L and will be occasionally on the ITV4 show. Has a good handle on Sutton ( not just what he gleans from me but he does his own research ) and was at the game on Saturday as a “home “ fan. You can hear the feelings re Sutton at the. 1 hr 10 min mark but this postcast episode is titled Abominable Cheesy Chips which is a complaint about our stadium catering. I am requesting that Claire “SLO” investigates the anaemic chips and unmelted cheese immediately in order to restore the clubs good name! podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/not-the-top-20-podcast/id1112915286?i=1000578422599

Wasn't it the case that we didn't have an individual player inside the top 30 scorers in D2 last season? And yet we did well.
Goals from all over the park.

It could be argued that is why we just missed out on the play offs. However we did do very well exceeding expectations with a Wembley final to boot.

Sounds right and we want goals from all over. But if you ask any manager if you could guarantee 15 goals from a forward I’m pretty sure he’d take it. I’m sure Matt would and it doesn’t have to be to the detriment of our other threats.

I think some posters are a little bit negative towards other posters on this forum, yes we are all amateurs including amateur referees. As this is a forum for amateurs, its not surprising they put their thoughts forward, and its not wrong of them to do so. Matt is the manager, a great one at that, he makes the decisions, and gets them right more often than not. That does not stop the debate on any bits or decisions us amateurs believe he may of got wrong. Its doesn't matter how great Matt is, or how far up the table we are, our main front 2 are not scoring, that's what strikers are there to do. We are lucky in having such quality all over the pitch that others pitch in with goals to win matches, but that would be even better if our strikers were scoring regularly.
