I went last night on the supporters coach. From SU’s point of view a night to forget for two big reasons, firstly the loss of Jon Barden with a serious long-term injury, and secondly a continuation of the horrendous away form.
Make no mistake about it, home form will dictate whether or not SU end up in a relegation scrap or end up in comparative lower mid-table security. The squad is much weaker than last season, mainly because of the long-term injuries to several key players, and some of the newcomers not yet contributing or looking to be at the standard required.
I also have to say that, unfortunately, the style of play, the tactics, the timing of substitutions are all too predictable. Matt Gray can only work with the players he has got, and the first thing he needs to do is somehow get a bit of confidence back, because I’m afraid I saw a few heads go down last night. The team needs a lucky break, but you create your own luck and I saw very little creativity or willingness to gamble a little bit to help create that luck.
Time to dig deep.

Swindon, Leyton Orient and now Stevenage have shown how to play. Again to predictable, same style of football. Nothing from the wingers.majority of Passing again sideways instead of forward.Hoofing again. Regarding players . Not shore of Lewis or Charley as yet. As been said injuries are going to be a big factor for the rest of the season Am not shore some of the squad players are EFL standard. But again I could be wrong. I hope we will be able to get the 45 - 50 Points that Matt says will keep us a league team. But away form has to improve.

So are you blaming Coby for Jon’s injury? I really hope not… Sorry but whom else is left? Risky, late intervention in midfield at 3-0, with game obviously gone. Could have led as well to a red card if he cought the opposition player. … if a Stevenage player would have done this tackle on our player, with the same result, would you have called him “unlucky” or a tottaly different word?? What a deplorable stance to take. Coby was physically shaken by what happened and I just hope he doesn't come on here and read this appalling view point. Just another in a growing line of what I consider to be ill considered posts on this forum recently.

Must agree with mark's comments. At the end fo the game when the players came to thank the supporters Cobi was definitely upset with possible tears in his eyes.

Things are much worse than they look from the season results. Many long term injuries and we only played a quarter of the season. Will be hard to put a decent first eleven on the pitch on Saturday. If noone else is recovered we are looking at Ward - Kizzi, John, Rowe, Milsom - Boldewijn, Eastmond, Lovatt, Neufville - Bugiel, ?. And in my opinion, while having the most respect for Coby’s character, he should be benched too after yesterday, not only for breaking Barden’s leg (yes there was some bad luck involved too) but because he is a great 10-15 games sub but never a 40 games per season player, due to obvious physical limitations. In such situation, having in the team 3-4 unplayable guys is a luxury we couldn’t actually afford… That is truly a terrible thing to say. If an opposition player had caused the break I would still say it was a footballing accident. Also if we had 4 unplayable players we would win the league.

(I looked at the highlights. When they scored their third, I though “ok, game is gone, at least let’s hope nobody gets hurt till the end”).

It was an unfortunate accidental collision which wasn't any ones fault.
We are all saddened by the injury and disappointed that we lost.

Something else we need to consider is our poor disciplinary record this season. We are second worse to Wimbledon - 25 yellow cards and Bugiel Eastmond and John on 3 cards each - so that will be a match ban if they get 2 more yellows by the end of our 19th game which is the Rochdale game. That will further stretch our limited resources.
I think that we may have to recall all of our loanees. They are going to have to be thrown in at the deep end and will sink or swim. Tope has been up to it so far. It may be the making of Roman, Tobi and Matt.

I agree that was really harsh on Coby. I'd been thinking a lot about how horrible he must feel. He knows exactly what it's like to be sidelined with a hideous injury for a long time too, so that probably makes him feel even worse.

Last night all about Jon Barden, looked very painful, and I wish he a speedy recovery.
The performance was simply the worst of the season, no creativity, long balls going nowhere, not a Sutton performance I recognise.
2 of the goals were definitely avoidable, first goal, the golden rule is you attack the ball. 3rd Goal, Coby commits the cardinal sin of turning away from the shot rather than putting his body on the line..
