So it's winner takes all tonight. Oxford are not doing great things so far in the league, but it seems their away form is slightly better than their home form, and their demolition of Leyton Orient in the first game of the competition can't be ignored.
Easy permutations. If we win we go through. If we draw it goes to penalties, and whoever wins the shootout goes through. Doesn't matter what happens in the other game (which has the same permutations), although if we win and the other match goes to penalties, we will top the group and therefore be seeded in the next round (although that doesn't mean a huge amount in the greater scheme of things).
For those interested, the next round (which is still regionalised) is due to be played on November 30th, which sits between the FA Cup 2nd round and Carlisle away.

Good to see Tope back, not sure if he's eligible for the silly key game yet.

The unloved competition that continues to go rather well for us. A much changed Sutton giving plenty of fringe players a run out beat an almost full strength league 1 Oxford. Well done all. Credit to the management I think for the fact we can have so many changes and still prove so organised and hard to break down. And of course to all the players who always without fail work so hard for this club. Good for the confidence, back to back clean sheets and wins.

Orient have just equalised against Chelsea. It would be nice if O's see this out now.

Lots of positives tonight considering so many players playing out of position. Coby had his most assured game of the season; we retained the ball better in midfield and the defence linked and didn't just boot the ball. Brad House has another excellent game - we have 3 good keepers. Enzio had another good game at RB. Kyllian won a penalty and put it away with some assurance. Rob Milsom was Immense and Luke Gambin showed flashes of what he can do. Has to be good to bank another 40k. However Chelsea snatching two late goals puts them at the top on goals scored- have to hope we draw away to Wimbledon. Nasty ties if we draw Ipswich Plymouth or Stevenage.
I'm sure we will have gained confidence from tonight.

Job done, and we're through to the knockout stage. This was despite fielding something of a scratch side which, after a quadruple substitution on the hour mark, included Dundo at centre back and Omar in midfield. As mentioned above, some of the fringe players impressed this evening, Luke Gambin catching the eye with one dazzling run into the visitors' area, while Brad House stopped some powerful shots. Kylian, who started wide on the left and ended the game up front with Donovan, dispatched the penalty with confidence.
Oxford Utd, who rested a few of their regular players, mustered several goal attempts but these were either off target (one early on coming down off the bar) or straight at House.
Pity about those late Chelsea goals at Orient which mean we lose home advantage in the next match.

Means it's now one of Ipswich, FGR, Plymouth, Stevenage, MK Dons, AFC or Pompey, Colchester in the next round.
I expect the draw pretty soon as the matches are in 4 weeks time, but no idea when. I believe last season they took place on a Saturday afternoon on Sky.
