As luck would have it, I am not put off by beimg slagged off on here 2 things, turning back to old players doesn't normally work, Tanto wasn't the same in his second spell and of course Roarie didn't work out either. I still belive if you are looking for a gem, you might find it in Kouassi, once he came inside last night and linked up with Donny they looked a handful. Slagging off begin........ Aside from the obvious examples people have already stated, quite correctly, there's also circumstance. Tanto's "most recent spell" was blighted by injury Deacon's 2nd spell was literally a couple of weeks before Dos all but resigned. Although fundamentally I don't disagree with you if you are applying that to the 2 players mentioned. I just don't think either of those 2 options may be right. Tanto I've already explained, but with David, if you were sidelined by a club that just bought you, and you were sent back to the club that sold you, it's not beyond the realms of possibilty that psychologically one could feel like they've not progressed. Also it probably won't be good for his progression to go back to the same club, with the same manager and most of the same players. It would probably be better for him to go to another club, with a different manager and a different style of play to expand his experience. He may be great for us, but as a player, he's not going to learn anything new by coming back to us. Loans always work for the benefit of the parent club and the player. The club that receives the player isn't the reason players get loaned out. In addition, the position David plays in is actually not a position that we really need to strengthen unless either Josh or Will have a long term injury (and even then we have Enzio). Players coming on loan are expected to play and at the moment I wouldn't want to drop either of the two current players.

It’s not unusual for clubs to buy players and then immediately loan them back to the selling club. This would be a similar move.
I am sure David would be happy to come back to us on loan to the end of the season if the terms were right and to remind the Posh manager why he bought him.
David was one of the stand out players in League 2 last season. Why would he not want to be that again?

David was one of the stand out players in League 2 last season. Why would he not want to be that again? True, but in many of those cases that's more to due to the technicality of the transfer window. Keep them match fit before using them later in the season when injuries bite and fatigue sets in. I agree David was one of the standout players in League 2, on his day. But in reality on the balance of the whole season there were many games in which he was anonymous, especially in the 2nd half of the season. On technical ability he is way beyond L2 level, but there were a lot of things about his game (consistency, strength, tackling himself) which needed work to improve his game. If that didn't happen in the 3 seasons he was at Sutton, the argument still stands - 5 months at Sutton in exactly the same set up with the same tactics and playing alongside similar players probably won't improve him as a player and therefore the parent club won't gain anything from loaning him out to us.

Take your point Andy but they’ve had nothing out of him so far and still paying his wages.

Whilst this may all be irrelevant I don’t agree that Ajiboye wasn’t improving or won’t improve with us. Last season was his first in League 2 and he was very good. Not perfect but he proved he could create a goal or chance from nowhere, as well as score occasionally (an area he would ideally improve). He was exciting at the level. It’s the reason he got bought. He was never going to be able to produce in every game or indeed across the whole 90 minutes due to the type of player he is and the work oppositions would do to negate him. Have we missed him? I think we have, not to take anything away from anyone else.

I’d be amazed if Ajiboye isn’t back here in January on loan for the remainder of the season.

I didn't say it never worked, and for the examples given of returning players that did well on their return there is also another list with ones who didn't do so well. Nicky Bailey was a slightly different case as he came back after a long establishe league career, and we were lucky in getting a couple of good years out of great player at the end of his career.
As said to you weeks ago I like the we play box to box, its really been about sticking the ball in the net and I really do have high hopes of Kouassi. I just feel with Donny alongside, Josh, Will etc behind we can get those goals.

You said getting old players ,back "doesn't normally work ".
You have been given countless examples of when it has at Sutton. I could add Jimmy Dack and Andy Riley to that.
I think you need to step back before making rash statements cos the ones you have made recently have been at best inaccurate and at worst just plain wrong!

Well there has been 7 or 8 players quoted going back 40yrs, so how many others have returned in that time and not been a success 2nd time around? I reckon it would be just as many if not more, but then you are the historian.

Well, as most of those who returned to the club for any decent amount of time have been mentioned, I would say, no there isn't.
Perhaps Ryan Palmer wasn't as good as his first spell and maybe Tony Quinton too.
But I could go way back and list a number of returning players who did ok too. Dodd and Honey are examples but I doubt their names would mean anything to you, so what would be the point?
So, I think you "reckon" wrongly.

I wonder if Terry or any of the other scouts have been to Dorking this season to look at James McShane, probably their star asset in Dorkings first season in the conference he’s up to 11 goals already which included a hattrick against Notts County.
