After their 2-1 victory on Tuesday at Mansfield, Bradford are top of the form table for away games. That’s definitely a win for Us😀 then especially as Platt was sent off 👍

Is David Platt still playing ? No, he gave up playing for the Coronation Street local team when they used to play at the Red Rec some years ago, unless of course you are thinking of Matty Barton in Emmerdale but he doesn’t play football. I suppose it is easy to confuse their names although I do recall some fellah with that name who used to knock a ball about 80/90’s but he disappeared in Italy so I don’t suppose he amounted to much🤷♂️ 😂😂😂😂

Bradford City are now reporting that over 700 away tickets have been sold for tomorrow, not a sell-out, but there should still be a decent crowd, especially with fine weather forecast.

I was going to go all Monday night football style and break the match down - but thought better of it as I don’t want Jamie Carragher & Gary Neville to become unemployed..🎈
So.
SU 2 v 0 Bradford City C.Eastmond 63’ J. Kizzi 81’

In the perverse hope that my predictions are as bad as Sols, I predict Sutton to get a hiding. I listened to Matt's preview - just finding enough fit players will be difficult, so several will be asked to take a role in defence that is new. Matt's list of players out with serious injuries is worrying. Anyone remember hearing that artificial turf caused more injuries? I think U's have put that theory in the bin. Add to that Bradford are top of the away form table. So I go for 0-2 if Rose is in goal and 0-5 if Ward retains the jersey. I hope to be proved wrong.

Decent first half display which yet again saw us behind without being outplayed (was that goal offside?) and a second half with the mountain to climb after a finish which no one could stop.
I don't get it when people question the players effort. They gave everything today. As they allways do, but the 2 goals was just too much to get back against a very good defence.
Two things which are hindering us now is our a back four, due to injuries and players out of position, makes it a very temperamental defence. And we still struggle up front to create more.
Massive game next Sat. Let's hope no one picked up any knocks today!

Sadly no one to put on to change the game and you can understand why Matt took so long to make any changes. Why did we sign Thomas. Clearly not Football League standard and the fact that Wrexham released him suggested he wasn't good enough at Conference Level!
We badly need a win for confidence sake.

We were the equal to Bradford throughout most of the game, but they did edge it in game management - I felt that we could have kept playing until mid-night and still fail to score. We are not playing to our striker’s strengths which does not help.
Our summer recruitment has not been a success. Apart from Josh, none are first-team regular picks, mostly being used just as late off the bench replacements or squad fillers. Budget no doubt held us back as to how experienced or good our incomers could be, but on the showing so far they are not adding to the depth of the squad. I really hope they can pick up over the coming weeks and prove me wrong.
Our injuries have, of course, hindered us. But this is when the squad depth kicks in. Or not…

Thought we played well first half but we needed that first goal. We had a great period of 5 minutes or so where it looked like we’d break through but a deflected shot then gave them the lead. It didn’t fall nicely like that for us unfortunately. We did make a little mistake in the lead up, small margins as ever. From that point on it was always going to be difficult and the 2nd killed the game. A stroll from there for Bradford. They must have got 4 or 5 bookings a and could have got 3 more oddly. Twice wide they chopped when roasted first half and no booking, plus a Smallwood took out Lovatt late for which he played advantage and didn’t book when it was a stonewall one. Though Cook’s early one was never a booking.
Lovatt did well I thought which is a positive from this tricky period of injuries.
Thought the Bradford support was the best we’ve seen since up here.

No complaints. A very (very) stretched Sutton team beaten by a very good Bradford who, imo, look good for promotion.
Our heads never went down and for the most part we competed well. Lovatt is proving hs worth.
Actually, one complaint; the rec side lino. I'm generally philosophical about poor officiating but this guy got a lot of calls wrong.
Fortunately all of the teams below us lost, bar one. Still, the Rochdale, Colcester and Gillingham games that fall before we'll have many of the injured squad members back to fitness have become extra interesting.

We had 4 aims today:
A) not to lose B) Eastmond not getting a yellow C) John not getting a yellow D) not to get any more injuries
On the bright side, we seem to achieved 3 of those. Just not the 4th. In all fairness, the 90 mins today was a vast improvement on the previous week and on performances such as at Gillingham. First goal was either offside (which I can't say from my angle but most of our side shouted for it) and a brilliant 2nd goal. That was all that separated the sides.
Then the other story. 9 shots, one on target. That was from Will in the first half. All 5 available strikers played today. Not one of them had a shot on target. There's no point at all singling out any one player suggesting they are not good enough. Its what they can do as a part of a unit. And overall the vast majority of our opportunities and attacks came via the left hand side of the pitch. We may only have Eastmond/Lovatt/Milsom currently available in midfield, but they are all in the defensive/holding midfielder mould. Therefore, as expected, we're not creating chances that way. The right didn't produce a huge amount either, but again when we have a winger playing as a right back and a right winger who seems to not be as in as good form as earlier in the season probably gives more context into why our attack is more impotent.
Our defensive situation is difficult, but our issues in midfield are just as significant but less obvious as the manifestation is more indirect.
Kudos to Milsom for that amazing goal line clearance too.
We're in for a tough few weeks and we need to buckle up. What we really could do with is 6 weeks of heavy snow. But as that's looking almost as unlikely as us running away with the league title we just have to do the best with what we've got.

In some respects that was a better performance from Sutton United than in a number of games recently. There were a few periods of decent football played up until the Bradford penalty box when everything fell apart. Unfortunately all too predictable, and eventually Bradford City fully deserved the win.
There is no doubt that the horrendous injury list is contributing massively to Sutton’s travails. However…… the replacement of players in the summer has not been good. With the occasional exception of Neufville (up until a few weeks ago) and Fadahunsi’s couple of goals, the summer recruits have contributed nothing. Sorry, Thomas simply is not L2 standard and Gambin achieved little or nothing with Barnet and Crawley. Pierre has been constantly sidelined with a lack of fitness and injury.
No doubt finances are tight, but are they any tighter than several other clubs in L2? January is never an easy time to bring players in, but any targets need to be higher calibre than the summer recruits.
