As we approach the half way point of our season, and a number of League clubs have a break, can I say a thank you to the stewards we have been using this season for the work they are doing. Yesterday Bradford City brought the largest set of away fans to our stadium since we became a league club, and again they rose to the challenge of not just ensuring everyone was safe and (mainly) well behaved, but ensured everyone was happy and a good atmosphere and experience prevailed. (I'm not sure every Bradford City away game has reflected that).
Yet when the more obvious side of the stewarding job was required that job too was executed and the challenges met. Another unfortunate episode of someone getting pitchside was dealt with swiftly, with a resulting ejection.
The Club received a considerable number of emails from Farnborough Town supporters following last weekends happy (for them) experience too.
Our home stewards continue to execute this difficult role too despite the pockets of unpleasantness they are exposed to, and the general rise in bad behaviour across the league this season. Whilst we get less positive commentary directly from supporters regarding home stewards, this probably reflects our supporters' normalisation of their good work - which isn't always reflected in the feedback I receive about stewarding when our supporters travel to other stadia.
Our stewards are not alone in being worthy of praise, with a large number of people involved in hosting matchdays. From our own in-house volunteers, working before, during and after games, to the doctors, first aiders, and police attendees, there are many that deserve (and get!) thanks from the Club. It's not just on the pitch this Club has improved and been rewarded with promotion, over the last few years.
Thank you.
