Not often I start a match thread, but this is the last chance 2022! What a fantastic year it has been! Very good chance for us to pick another 3 points and I think we do, 3-0 Sutton! πππ€

Let's hope so as Gillingham's last league win was against us in October in a rather dire match where we created very little. I understand that Gillingham have recently or about to get a new owner who will be financing an escape from the relegation zone so probably a good time to play them before finances improve.
The amount of rotation we are able to will be limited especially if Donovan is still unfit. Adam Lovett may have recovered from his concussion.
A good chance to move closer to the play off places.

One of Gillingham's new signings in January may be Tanto (see 'possible January signing' thread).

Gillingham were the worst side I've seen this season, until we played Crawley a couple of days ago.
They've not scored in their last 7 games. They've not won away this season. They've scored 2 goals away all season. Last time out they gave Colchester United their first away win of the season.
We're not going to play a weaker side this season.

They've just signed Tom Nichols from Crawley, but he won't be able to play until the 1st of course

Hartlepool when we played them at home was certainly the worst opposing performance Iβve seen. Could have beaten them 5 zip on another day without playing particularly well. Gillingham though not scoring are generally a tough nut to crack defensively. If either side deserved to win the game at their place it was them. Iβm not travelling in the expectation of lots of goals but funnier things have happened! We go into this one in good confidence and generally we do well at home, particularly outside of the better sides. Hopefully 3 points and we can look forward to the rest of the season with optimism.

Just looked at the table and we have had Xmas and they have scored a total of Six (yes just six ) goals all season
To be fair they have done really well to earn 14 points !!
And starting with the Sutton win they scored 4 goals in 4 games !!

Given our injury crisis starting to come to an end and our recent solid performances, we have to fancy 3 points. But the old clique that no games are easy is very true. We will need to play well.
In the last game Gillingham defended very well even though that's about the only thing they did do well as both teams looked pretty poor that day. Come on you U's!

We're home against the side bottom of both the league and the form table. What could possibly go wrong? π

Well we did not deserve that! Sometimes the points picked up like that are the most important ones...
