I know this subject has been raised before and I know that the club has more than enough expendature concerns without an additional one, but the less than ideal situation with the ground's tannoy/pa system came strongly to mind at the home match vs AFCW.
Basically, other than as a distant murmer, all of the annoncements were inaudible. Obviously the size and increase in crowd volume, on that day, was a factor. But, nonetheless, it was almost not worth being used.
Firstly I should say that Tony D (it is Tony, yes?) is a decent announcer and has, recently, both slowed the speed of his delivery and cut the quantity of what he says. All of which were wise improvements. It gives time for people to register the information being imparted. I'd still guess that he's holding the mic a little too close to his mouth. It's a classic error but, counter-intuitively, if you hold the mic a little further away then your voice will be clearer and louder. (Bona fides; I've spent 30 years using mics, professionally, both as a singer and a speaker). I think the delivery technique could be a little stronger. When announcing, unlike in conversation or even interviewing (at which Tony is excellent) it's quite useful to use a slightly clipped manner of voice so that the first syllable and (especially) the last syllable of each word are very precise. It makes the words much easier to hear, at distance.
The main problem, I think, is that the system just isn't up to scratch. The fact that we have a very open ground doesn't help and sound tends to dissipate, naturally. I can't see anything especially wrong with the postitioning of the speakers although, again, in such an open area it's all a bit best-guess. I generally stand near the GGL end/Rec side corner flag. That area doesn't do the sound any favours, tbh, but this is a real problem in many parts of the ground.
Again, I don't mean this as a whinge. We're in the middle of a massive upgrade and there are many other things that must have priority. But I do think it's something that will have to be addressed sooner or later, as it does sometimes feel just a little embarrassing.
