The difference between the teams was 3 mistakes. Louis getting done by a decent piece of skill, ward flapping at a cross that was easier to catch and a poor penalty. Tope coming on really changed the attack and we looked a genuine threat. The first time a defender didn’t have a free header was Tope putting pressure on and it leads to the penalty. Without wanting to be too critical, there is a huge difference between Rose and Ward, hopefully Jack will be fit for next week

Personally I think House could do better.

I thought overal it was a decent performance that deserved a bit better than a 2-0 defeat. As said a couple of mistakes and missed penalty is always going to put you up against it. David looked good when he came on, lets hope he can provide that the quaility we need in front of goal.

Difficult conditions today (heavy pitch, gusty wind, squally showers), but of course those were the same for both sides, and there can be little doubt that the better side won today. As mentioned above, defensive lapses cost us two goals before half time, the first a tidy finish into the corner by McAleny but the second pretty much handed to him on a plate.
With the wind at our backs in the second half we looked a bit more threatening, more so once Tope and David had come on for Donovan and Enzio, getting in some crosses, and winning a few corners and free kicks in dangerous positions. But there was no end product, a defender invariably getting the decisive touch. The saved penalty pretty much summed up our afternoon.
Salford thus complete the double over us; we've not scored at the Peninsula Stadium in three visits.
One crumb of comfort is that we've now played all of the current top six away (four defeats, two draws). We've still to play four of the bottom six away.

As Amber Aleman says, we've still to play 4 of the bottom 6 away from home - but those sides are going to be battling for their lives and there is some quite heavy investment in new players amongst those sides during this window. I'm afraid that the natural pessimist in me starts looking down the table rather than up every time we lose - and while there is less than 20pts between us and the side in 23rd place, I'm going to continue to worry. I think that we've quite a difficult run in to the end of the season - and, on paper at least, next home game against Crawley appears to represent our best opportunity to pick up three points. Let's hope that Crawley don't experience 'the new manager bounce'. Subject to injuries, I would anticipate that David will start against Crawley and Jack will return. Also think that Matt might bring in Lee, Tope or possibly Harry for Donovan. As Matt himself said in his pre-match interview on Friday, the primary job of the forwards is to score goals - and I don't think that Donovan has scored for nearly 3 months (although I don't think that Lee has scored at all so far this season). The back four pretty well picks itself as injuries appear to have largely deprived us of any real competition in that area of the team.

There seems to be a misconception that if a player has played in League 2 for another club they will be good enough to do so for us. We have found that to be untrue.
The last game for another one of our squad?

Not a huge amount to add. We didn't adapt to the conditions as well as the opponents, although credit for I think preventing Salford for having even 1 shot in the 2nd half.
It was one of those games where things didn't fall for us. Robs penalty and then a goalmouth scramble 5 mins later that it would be easier to score from than miss ended up due to a lucky rebound straight in the keepers hands. Just one of those days.

The only one of the back 5 who didn’t extend their contract last week. So you mean Lewis Ward. It would have saved a lot of time if you named them of course. Do you know how long his contract is for at the club, and how long the other keepers contracts are?

Do you know how long his contract is for at the club, and how long the other keepers contracts are? I would guess that Ward has signed up until the end of 23/24 as we paid money for him. Personally i still think he has has a lot to prove to the fans judging by what performances i have seen. I was impressed with him at Plough lane in the league but i have also witnessed him being not so good.

What does length of contract matter? I would hope similar to Thomas and Gambin his contract will be terminated by mutual consent if another club is interested.

If he's already signed up to the same point in time as the other 4 members of our back 5 had extensions to, then why even question why he didn't have a contract extension. You'd have a point there if you knew he was only contracted to the end of this season. I have no idea if he has been, but I'd probably want to check that first before making that comparison.

I’ll be the first to admit I am not always right.
