"Letting off steam" in ways that doesn't harm others isn't relevant to this thread so I'm not sure why we're discussing it? This thread is about the use of discriminatory language that causes harm to others. Anyone who uses that sort of abuse as a way of "letting off steam" needs to take a long hard look at themselves and probably not attend public events until they've learned to control themselves. There's a world of difference between "oh for f***s sake" and "get your t**s out, that's what you're here for." You may notice that it's not the example that includes swearing that's the problematic one.

Nobody's upset me Del 🙂
I just love our club very much and certainly would be upset if it changed from a place that feels like home to a place where people are allowed to behave in a hostile manner that makes it feel unsafe.
You have to nip these things in the bud or you can't easily fix them.

Is bad behaviour more prevalent in certain areas of grounds, behind the goal/s for example? Apart from the odd bit of swearing as mentioned i've never had any problems at GGL. I always try to watch football from a seat around the halfway line so i can watch the match in relative peace.Nearly all the abuse/screaming/chanting etc seems to come from behind both goals. Also, many spectators seem to spend a lot of time goading opposing fans rather than watching the game. Sorry Billy I missed this before. Perhaps it is more common from certain sections of fans but I wouldn't want to point the finger at anyone in particular unless I've actually heard them come out with inappropriate stuff! I agree with your last point. I wish they wouldn't but can't exactly tell them how to support their team if they're not breaking ground regs

It's clearly the youngsters who have started to come now that we're a league club.

The nastiest stuff I've heard in our home end came from a couple of blokes I'd say were well into their fifties. Proper 1970s sexism.

Who said anything about making people feel unsafe or unwelcome ? You are twisting my words ! People swear at football matches. men & women. In fact you probably don't remember this but we had a very vicious female supporter following Sutton once. I remember her, recall her assaulting one of our own once (there may have been other occasions!). At Purfleet perhaps? it was me she whacked in the face! All because my 6-year old at the time was bouncing a ball which she took great umbrage with...and yes it was Purfleet
