I am sorry to start a new thread, thought this could spark some conversations. I am happy to keep it in the other one going forward if people would prefer. As we know the 125 year anniversary is coming up soon and thinking about it gave me an idea that I think would work very well on the podcast. This is the guests choices and can be for whatever reason they see fit. Over the next few weeks we will build a base XI and going forward each panellist gets to challenge a player with his own choice and we put it to the vote. Listen to the panel make their Goalkeeper choices & cast your vote (external link so I can have one result over many platforms) play.suttonpodcast.com/UltimateXI

Great idea but how about a team from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s etc?? That way fans can put forward their best player in the relevant position, depending how long they have been supporting the team. But it would be a lot more work for you of course

But it would be a lot more work for you of course I did consider. But felt this would be more interesting to see a mix and how it develops. I'm sure there will be many conversations in the coming weeks & months over different best teams/players. Oh and yeah you are spot on too much work!

I seem to recall doing a team of the 60s, 70s etc in that thread.
Can it be resurrected on here?

These were Mark's selections on previous thread:
60s 2 3 5 formation
Roffey - Gamblin Taylor - Powell Faulkner Clack - Bladon Pritchard Mellows Hermitage Goodall
My 70s team was a bit difficult to select. An odd decade in that it included the end of the Cann era, Powell 's early management career and later Blunt/ Williams.
Formation of 4 4 2
Collyer - Walden, J Rains Preston Mears - Ives Fraser Cornwell G Dennis - Kidd Joyce
Joycey in just over Drabwell both enjoying good scoring records at each end of the decade. Joycey getting the bod for what he went onto achieve but would not get in my 80s front two.
Cornwell just gets in over the often underrated Butterfill.
Onto the 1980's; the club's second "golden decade". Biggest difficulty here was the forwards, too many good 'uns!!
4 4 2 formation
Fearon - Jones T Rains N Golley Green - Stephens P Rogers M Golley Sunnucks - McKinnon Ekoku
Thus Lenny Dennis misses out. A footballing crime really. Plus there was Joycey, Awaritefe and Galloway. But Efan went onto play right at the top level so has to partner the obvious McKinnon.
I hope Lenny doesn't pick up on this!
A bit late today, taking advantage of the weather.
Interesting discussion but no Ollie Morah in my team.
4 4 2 formation (I did consider 3 5 2 as Rainsy employed that on occasions).
McCaulsky - Brooker Laker Berry Smart - Salako S Watson Harlow A Scott - Akrour Feltham
Harsh on Morah and Mark Watson, who had at one stage, one of the best goals to game ratios the club had seen. Joff Vansittart had a great scoring record and Mark Hynes was no slouch either. Also, Andy Riley and it was a toss up between him and Gwynne Berry. Nas and Dom get my vote for a forward line full of guile and both brilliant finishers.
McCaulsky up there with the very best 'keepers I have seen play for U's. Got the nod over Gareth Howells.
Onto the noughties and one of the less memorable decades in the club's history.
4 4 2 again
Iga - Downer Scarborough El-Salahi Ebsworth - M Gray Bailey Honey Akuamoah - Nurse Bolt
Found this quite difficult. Most picks came from the 03/04 season and only a couple from the start of the Doswell era.
Iga just pipped Scriven in goal. Others that just missed out include Andy Riley, Matt Fowler, Matt Hann, Tony Quinton and Tobi Jinadu.
Bolt was the last Sutton player to hit 20 or more league goals in a season before Dan Fitchett in 2015/16 while Nursey was just brilliant.
And finally, the 2010's. A decade of evolution, two league titles and a history making FA Cup run.
4 4 2 formation
Worner - Bennett Beckwith J Collins Wishart - Deacon Eastmond Davis Beautyman - Dundas Wright
I considered Brown in goal but he only played half a season. Bolarinwa also a consideration as was Fitchett for breaking 20 league goal mark in 15/16. Clough was very high up too but Beckwith 's form alongside his mate Collins was a solid platform for the team.

Can't believe some of these selections!! lol Happy for anyone's input.....Soon the base XI will be finished and when anyone comes on as a panellist they can put their your own choice forward. I am thinking about an element where people can send me a video putting their choice forward, but not sure yet. Remember though people have watched for 70 years, 30 years, 10 years, 2 years and 6 months some fan's opinion on 'best' will be from the team they started supporting decades ago. A strong argument could be made that the 'Best XI' was last seasons starting line up (in most games) as they are the guys that finished in the highest league position in our entire history. That is why I specifically ask them for their 'favourite' not best - can't help how people vote or understand it though. If anyone wants to come on drop me a message.
