4 matches on tonight, although we won't drop a place as none of the 3 sides below us are playing either. Ones to watch are Walsall (3 games in hand over us being 6 points behind) hosting Crewe, Saturdays opponents Newport facing a long midweek trip to Hartlepool and Grimsby (11 points behind with 4 games in hand to us) facing Harrogate. Top form Stockport have a very short hop to bottom placed Rochdale where a defeat for the latter and a win for Pools and Harrogate would leave them 9 points from safety, having played 3 games more.

Did someone predict Rochdale for the drop a few games in!

If Rochdale do go down - and it is looking increasingly likely that they will - then it will be their first time in the National League (like Oldham and Scunthorpe last season). The only other potential 'first-timers' currently at risk are Gillingham and Crewe - and I think they'll both be safe. While Wrexham and Notts County must be red hot favourites to come the other way, the play offs are unpredictable - and lots of our more traditional opponents are in contention like Woking, Bromley, Eastleigh, Boreham Wood, Wealdstone etc.

I think it would be good if any of those Non league teams make it to the Football league but parking at Eastleigh has been dreadful last few times i have been there.A local derby against Woking or Bromley would be good for our finances.

Given how far ahead of the pack Notts County and Wrexham both are it would be a travesty if both of them didn't come up.
Obviously it doesn't work like that.
Not exactly thrilling scorelines in tonight's D2 matches thus far.

Although not thrilling, those midweek result were more good than bad for us. With Grimsby and Walsall failing to win means that the former can't catch us winning all their games hand, and Walsall will now only be a point ahead of us if they win their 2 games in hand (Home to Bradford, Swindon and away to AFC Wimbledon compared to our "game in hand" at home to Crawley), so by the time we play them on April fools day we should be (barring other postponements) on the same number of games, and hopefully still above them, the 2nd game of a 6 game difficult run starting the week before at Mansfield and ending 15 days later at home to Northampton, all of whom in with a decent shout for the title/auto promotion/play offs.

Last night's home defeat for Rochdale looks like another nail in their coffin. By the time we travel to the Crown Oil Arena (aka Spotland) on 29 April, their relegation fate may already be sealed. I wouldn't wish that on them, but from a selfish perspective it could help us should we need a win then to claim a play-off place.
Hartlepool also remain in trouble after a home defeat, succumbing to a stoppage-time goal from Newport defender Mickey Demetriou - who'd snatched a similar late winner at Barrow ten days earlier. We may need to keep a close eye on him on Saturday!

Jeff Stelling twits sack the manager so Hartlepool Chairman has obliged . To be fair Keith Curle has not succeeded there. Final throw of the dice to avoid relegation " new manager bounce" ?

Hartlepool are now looking for their fifth manager since they came up with us from the National League less than two years ago. They simply haven't found the right successor to Dave Challinor since he left for Stockport.

I feel as though they may have left it a little late, tbh.

I feel as though they may have left it a little late, tbh. They've just appointed John Askey (who won the National League with Macclesfield, but was recently sacked by York). Good luck to him!
