According to the Kingstonian forum, former Sutton forward, Sammy Winston has passed away. He was only 44. Very sad.

My god.
Jared and I were only talking about him on Saturday.
44 is no age whatsoever. Condolences to his friends and family.

Can't believe that. He was a similar age to me. We used to wind each other up in the bar after games. Cheeky so and so he was. Haven't seen him in years but I'm sure he'll be very much missed.

That is awful news. Although he wasn’t with us for long, I always appreciated his 100% effort and commitment in every game. When JR brought him in towards the end of 98/99, it proved to be the final piece in the jigsaw for our triumphant push to the Isthmian Premier title.
Sincere condolences to his friends and family.

Tragic. He's one of those players I'll always have fond memories of, especially Aylesbury away where he was superb. Unfair to judge him on the doomed conference season as it was a poor side, but a very good player at isthmian level, and the sort fans always warm to. Had no idea he was so young when playing for us.

Immensely sad waking up today to the news about Sammy. I can’t comment greatly on his first spell (on loan) as we pushed on to win the Isthmian title - I was in my infancy of supporting the U’s then attending games as and when I could. He was however, my favourite player during that fateful Conference season of 99/00. I fondly remember his wonderful solo goal against Carshalton in pre season 99 where he weaved skilfully past defender after defender from the halfway line, Sammy had a fairly stocky build but boy was he quick, a prolific scorer for us during that brilliant Trophy run.
Condolences to his family, rest in peace Sammy.

Crikey I remember that goal well. What a beaut. Yes, he didn't look fast but he really was wasn't he?

There's a nice update on the GoFundMe page (link is in the earlier post from suttonpodcast). It’s going to be closed down soon, but it’s a terrific total amount raised, far exceeding the initial goal. 👍

Was a heartwarming read. Still very sad but it's so lovely to hear Sammy's daughter is being well supported.
