With three of the relegated teams from the National League destined for NL South (Maidstone, Yeovil and probably Torquay), looking increasingly like Bishops Stortford are going to find themselves in the National League North again.

Or Oxford City, if they don't get promoted, will be moved back into the North.

Someone much more geeky than me (which is a compliment by the way!) has got all of the ups/down and play offs in a handy google sheet docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JCLlBbNFIWMN4LuUlZK9qFsobwBbV1_fB9H-2RccMY4/edit#gid=1652205339For those either looking on a mobile or can't be bothered to look at it, a few highlights of teams we've crossed paths in the past Step 2 -> 3 Concord Rangers, AFC Telford United and probably Weymouth
Step 3 -> 2 Weston Super Mare, Bishops Stortford, either Hornchurch or Aveley and possibly Truro (if they beat Bracknell Town)
Step 3 -> 4 Hednesford Town, AFC Rushden and Diamonds, Bedford Town, Harrow Borough, Corinthian Casuals
Step 4 -> 3 Macclesfield, Basingstoke, and possibly Whitehawk, Walton and Hersham, Heybridge Swifts, Ware
Step 4 -> 5 Harlow Town, FC Romania, Tooting and Mitcham and possibly Merstham and SCR
Step 5 -> 4 Raynes Park Vale, Badshot Lea and possibly Egham Town and Redbridge

Didn't realise we had minnow namesakes in Step 7 twitter.com/SuttonUtdFC. They'll need another promotion on top of this one to have a shot at FA Cup glory, but nominative determinism should be enough for a couple of wins if and when they do get there.

No idea how long they've been around for, but it's been for quite a number of years

Am pretty sure we've had some of their supporters at GGL in the past ( think they made themselves known to Gareth or Dan Taylor at the time )...if you ever go onto Ebay, their shirts are often listed for sale in the Sutton United section as Ebay doesn't recognise we're two different Clubs )

If you use the ATM at Sainsburys in Cheam Village, it doesn't recognise the difference between Sutton in Surrey/Greater London and Sutton Coldfield in the Midlands.

When I was Club Secretary we would often get FA notifications of a caution for a player I’d never heard of. Guess what the FA had done ……… 😂

How can they be allowed to have the same name?

Always confused me too, I didn’t think the FA allowed clubs to have similar names, let alone identical. But then there are two Ashford Towns, so it’s not a unique situation.

Firstly the Middlesex club always had that in their name to avoid confusion with the other Ashford Town, and secondly the latter changed their name to Ashford United some years ago. I've always wondered the same about the other Sutton United FC, which (to answer someone else's question) has been around since the 1940s.

Non sure whether that’s right, I am sure I remember them adding (Middlesex), perhaps in the 80’s

Yes, on Final Score when the result came in on the vidiprinter, or whatever that particular thing is now called, it was always displayed as Ashford Town (Middlesex).
Which in itself is weird as Middlesex isn't really a county anymore. Just a strip across London. But I suppose it still officially is.

Officially it isn't - but the FA is still Middlesex because, I suppose, the regions worked just fine as they were and there was no need to rejig them just because London's boundaries had been changed!
You are right Dave, I checked on Wikipedia but misread the article. The club was formed as Ashford Albion, and I missed the bit where they changed it to Ashford Town in the sixties, adding (Middlesex) in 1990. I had thought as much myself but (erroneously) thought Wikipedia had corrected me!

Which, potentially, could beg the question of who was the first London team to do the League and Cup double. As Tottenham wasn't technically a London Borough in 1961 that honour would go to Arsenal.
