Yup, much-improved performance from the team today, and we remain unbeaten against Carlisle - who were a lot better than when we drew at their place in December, but had to rely on an unfortunate late own goal from Joe Kizzi for the point.
That's restored some confidence. We finish 14th (below Crewe only on goals scored) which, all things considered, is pretty respectable.

Was there any reason given why Rowe and Bugiel were missing.

It's worth adding that our team played with renewed energy despite a number of notable absentees and, once again, certain players being out of their usual positions. (Sam Hart was on the left wing, with Enzio covering at right back.)

That was not a bad way to end the season in all honesty. Sam Hart was a pleasure to watch yesterday and almost made me think what could have been had he been played in that position a few more times this season - he reminded me very much of a Dan Wishart/Ross Stern. I also thought Goodliffe had his best game for a while too. Nothing was getting past him. After the doom and gloom of previous weeks it was a nice reminder of what a decent side we have.
14th I think is a good return for the season. Looking at the table, only 5 points separated Barrow in 9th with Newport in 15th. And as the Aleman said, we didn't get 13th on goals scored, but that's not much compared to Mansfield, who miss out on a play off spot by an ever finer margin than we did last season. They would have been in at the expense of Salford if they'd scored one more goal over the 46 matches.
We've set ourselves a realistic target to beat for next season now, and to be honest as a club we can feel a lot happier with the season than our near neighbours, who with 2 wins in the 2nd half of the season have a lot more work to do over the summer than we do.
Going on last season, the fixtures should be out around late June/early July (last season they were released on 23rd June, but as the season started at the end of July rather than the 1st week in August due to the World Cup). In the meantime, I'd like to thank our players and management for delivering what I think was quite an achievement bearing in mind the troubles we had with injuries throughout the season. It's pretty unlikely whoever we have next season with us, that will end up being as bad as it was this season. The positive spin on this will be that Matt, only in his 4th year of management, would have learnt a hell of a lot from this season, and will be back as a more experienced manager for the next campaign. Which I fully believe will be more successful that this one was.

Nice to know someone agrees with my posts.
Post by halftimet on Apr 23, 2023 at 9:23am The back four is likely to be similar if not the same next year as we know they have signed new contracts. Winning the ball in midfield and keeping it reduces pressure on the back 4. Our midfield when we lose is often overrun.
if Lovett is the future in midfield, give him a run out for the next two games. Could Hart play in midfield for example? Now is the time to find out.

Does anyone know if the club is going to do an additional print run of the programme for Monday as I didn't get one and it is the only one of the season that I haven't got?

One thing that annoyed me yesterday, was the amount of fans that left bang on full time (or a bit before) and didn’t stay for the lap of honour. I would say well over half of our fans didn’t stay. Not good.

Not good. We’ve got a lot of new support without the same emotional attachment. A fair chunk just come to grab a game. I’m just grateful they come at all to be honest.

A very healthy 4,771 announced as yesterday’s gate, which meant we averaged 3,265 in the league, a 6% increase on last season.

I thought it was a perfomance typical of the season as a whole, we controlled the game, should have scored more and conceeded to our one defensive error of the day. Our main problem is lack of cover for the first 11 and lack of clinical finishing.

Our main problem is lack of cover for the first 11 and lack of clinical finishing. Possibly. But to only make one defensive error (if that's all we did) is pretty good going. We do not (as has been mentioned elsewhere by both myself and others) really have the budget for strength in depth. Although I think the season has proved beyond doubt that we have more than just a 'first 11'. And very few strikers in D2 are actually noted for their high degree of clinical finishing.

Not good. What scum. Bought tickets to watch the game and left at the end without getting permission. We don't need such fair weather fans. Better off without them. Perhaps a guide to how to behave can be sent out with the tickets in future so Mr sufc1898 high and mighty doesn't have to feel annoyed at our offensive behaviour. No, no. We only do erudite digs on this forum. You'll need to have a go at sufc1898 while pretending to be informative. Smarten up. Standards!
