Yes wimbledon announce signing of Omar on 1 year deal Strange to sign on a one year deal only, hardly giving any long or even medium-term security. This time next year OB will be almost 30 and potentially looking at another move. Perplexed by this one. It is a bit of a strange one, I agree. The only reasons I can think of behind Omar's move to the Wombles are one or more of: a) more money b) didn't figure in Matt's plans c) some sort of fall-out Looking forward to an update on ins and outs from Matt sooner rather than later.

It looks like Omar is being a business man here. As he was free, Wimbledon would have given him a decent little wage, and come the end of next season he will be a free agent again, essentially picking up more of the spoils with no transferee fee in clubs way.
I remember last year Matt was not pleased with Deano for agreeing to sign a contract with him before leaving and going back on his word. It would not surprise me if this year he said to his players, 'I want commitment and honesty, are you in or out for next year' and after discussions and Matt put down his vision for them, the players who could not commit agreed to not waste time with new contracts, and rather focus our budget elsewhere.
We must also remember that throughout last season he often stated that the main thing we lacked was that quality up front. So it would not shock me if he was reluctant to maintain the wages our forwards were getting. At the end of the day its a business.

We need a new forward threat and to afford a decent striker we probably needed to sacrifice a couple from the squad.

Sods law we will sign that good striker and then they get injured for half the season

Randall to Notts C. Another good move for him. They have played wing backs in the season gone, it’ll be interesting if he plays in that position.

I must admit that I'm finding it quite depressing how active some of our rivals are at the moment - in signing our ex-players - while there is no current evidence of any activity on our part to bring players in - and our web-site is promoting a shirt auction and a stand up comedy night. I know that the transfer window hasn't opened yet and only free agents are available - but there are a lot of the latter currently available - and some very good ones. Let's face it, when the transfer window opens, we're not going to be looking to spend much money on transfer fees. Last Summer Matt took his time and frequently made reference to having until the window closing date to bring players in. In the last couple of days of the window, he brought in Aaron Pierre, Lewis Ward and Charley Kendall - none of whom played many games for us or even lasted until the end of the season. If quality is out there it won't be out there for long before someone snaps it up. I know that we can't offer the same wages as pretty well anyone in the EFL - but there must be some decent players out there who just want the security of a contract and perhaps an opportunity to play more games than they have in the past. Sorry for the rant - having a bad day and needed to get how I'm feeling off my chest. Suspect that there are some other Sutton fans who perhaps feel the same way as I do - and probably many more who are happy for the club to take their time and trust in those who have taken us to the EFL to keep us there. With a massive TV deal looming, I hope they are right.

Why shouldn’t the club promote the shirt auction or a comedy night? Clearly, there are no signings to report yet.

davep, do you think that the club are just sitting on there hands and doing nothing at all about transfers, me thinks not. They will announce things when they are ready to, and not before, that is how the club do things. Also to say that the club are only posting things like the Comedy club and shirt sponsors is not good ether, because they are important things to the club and make a lot of money for the club. We are a special football club in so many ways and that is the charm of this club and also have the best board this club has ever had. The reason clubs are signing our players is that they are going for three transfers and for what ever reason they have left us. So as I say let’s just wait and see what happens. ⚽️⚽️⚽️

With a massive TV deal looming, I hope they are right. I’m sure Matt and his team have a short list of potential targets. Unfortunately players will hold out for the best deal. If one target is missed they will go to the next. That could be the reason for the late signings. We need to be patient.

With a massive TV deal looming, I hope they are right. I'm not finding this depressing at all. To me, Omar and Will stopped being Sutton players when they were on the released list. The fact that both of them have chosen a sideways move is evidence enough that financially can't compete with most clubs at this level. Which makes out 14th placed finish last season even better that just the table says. In fact I'm still of the mindset that finishing 22nd out of 24 for the next 20 years is still a huge achievement. And the only way we can become more competitive is to raise funds as much as we can - including comedy nights and shirt auctions. All of this peripheral stuff is the very grass roots of financial viability that we need, and need more of. Whilst I get your point about some players wanting "the security of a contract", you must also accept that some of these released players could also be looking at the National League for a higher payday than we can offer. There are certainly a few teams in there that could offer more than we could, even for a level below. Whilst no one, not even Matt, could say that last seasons recruitment was stellar in any shape or form, remember we've still got a settled defensive line up, and a midfielder who had his best ever season for us as a captain. The pieces will fall into place. Matt has done enough in the 4 seasons we've had him here to totally suggest it will.

While many references about wanting this or that player before they sign for a club might be taken with a pinch of salt I notice Notts say they wanted to sign Randall earlier this year. Question raised was he tapped up while under contract. Suggests both Notts and player waited on promotion ? did this influence the number of games Randall missed with strain injuries in latter half of last season?

I miss the old days when we didn’t know who had joined or left until we went to the first PSF.

I miss the old days when we didn’t know who had joined or left until we went to the first PSF. That's unfair. It usually wasn't until the last PSF at the earliest!

And quite often we had no idea after the games who some were either!
